Hola Rebecca! I see this post is about a year old, but I thought I'd answer anyway. I'm doing a foreign language reading challenge group for 2022. If you're still interested in attempting to read in Spanish, maybe it's an idea for you.

Myself, I'll be doing Dutch, French and Italian (Spanish I did this year) and the other interested people are doing mostly French and then Swedish and Indonesian.

I've added a post in this discussion group with the details of the challenge.

Hasta luego!

Rebecca Hey! I just saw this because of your comment on my reading challenge xD

I'm definitely interested in a language reading challenge!

Cool! We're 11 people doing the challenge this year. Just hop over to the group chat thread (on this profile), let us know what goal you want to set for yourself and I'll add you in!

Jane | 14 comments This is a personal 2024 challenge. I've just obtained two novels in German, both on ancient Rome, one originally by a Spanish author, but all I could find was a German translation--no English and I don't read Spanish. The other was by an Austrian author about Vindabona [today's Vienna, where the author hails from] --in German, of course. Both novels are fairly fat, so they will certainly be challenging and probably take a while!

Good luck on your challenge! I know the feeling. I've got a 500+ one in Italian to get through this year and a few 400 pagers. I am, and am not, looking forward to it! 😅

Jane | 14 comments The translation from Spanish into German looks really daunting, so I'll probably read just a few pp. at a time. Die Herrscherin von Rom: Historischer Roman

This is a 1000+ pager.
Good luck on your challenges.

Peter (slawophilist) | 31 comments @Jane. As you are able to read in German and have an interest in historical novels about Rome I would like to recommend to you the novel Kampf um Rom. I read it last year and enjoyed it a lot. It is about the little known period when the Ostrogoths ruled the Apenin Peninsula and competed with the remaining Romans and the Emperor of Byzantium. Just click the link to see my review.

Jane | 14 comments Many thanks, Peter. I'll certainly keep this in mind with its interesting and unusual subject! And you mentioned "easy to read"; something too difficult will certainly daunt me.
