DCI Woodward orders Kim into counseling. Right move? Will it help her?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) It will be really interesting how this plays out. If Kim cooperates it may be really helpful in her addressing those childhood issues. She does seem to have instinctively employed coping measures already, such as her work and her tinkering with her bikes. And her friendship and mentorship with her team, especially Bryant.

Can a person completely recover from what she's been through.. probably not, just learn how to live with it in some sort of acceptance.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It is the right move that will help her in the long run. I'm wondering if they will clash on this though. I don't see Kim agreeing to reveal her secrets to a shrink. If she does, it will be like pulling teeth for any counselor.

It is a great tool for Marsons to reveal Kim's inner thoughts and fears.

I think this is going to go much longer than 30 days, especially if she gets the right therapist. I don’t think she’ll reveal big secrets but she’ll certainly share things like fears, beliefs and vulnerabilities. She’s a psychologist’s dream.

It is the perfect move. Who else could she talk to?

I think for all intents and purposes, she’s recovered. However, she struggles with some demons, particularly her mother. She’s not moved on. Her calling every month is much more than assuring she’s still in the institution.

It’s an excellent device!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) It will definitely take longer than 30 days! But although she will be hostile at first, if Kim finds a rapport with the therapist she may actually get something positive out of it.

Exactly!

Lynn (ftbooklover) It makes me fear a bit for Kim. She talks about the way she has developed for coping with her past and her job, but if she begins to open up to a therapist, she may break some of those boxes that she describes. This might lead to some kind of explosion or break down if she is unable to handle it.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Great point Lynn. I forgot about her mentioning about locking things away in boxes... if therapy does indeed break them down and she is forced to deal with her past she could have a complete melt down.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. There are a lot of books to come so this could possibly be a scenario that does happen.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Good points everyone. Kim has hidden too much personal trauma for her to work through every thing in thirty days. I do believe a good therapist can help her without a melt down that will hurt her coping mechanisms. How that works in real life I don't know.
