This is a thought provoking book about the reality of immigration, that stays with you even when you have closed the cover.

Christy Lefteri draws on her experiences working with UNICEF to write a heartbreaking yet heartwarming tale of human resilience, strife, love and friendship.

As horrific as some of the scenes are, they are balanced with beauty and gentleness, especially in Nuri's relationship with his friend, Mustafa and wife, Afra, and in the descriptions of Nuri's care for his bees.

I loved the use of the last word of each chapter being the first word of the next, almost like a bridge linking the two. Very simple yet effective.

In places it was a hard read, but perseverance brought rewards and a new insight into the untold stories of people who lose everything, and risk whatever remains for a chance at a new life.

This is a must read and will, I am sure, become a true classic

Dorothy | 1 comments I agree with your comments. I read this book very recently and loved it. Like you, I loved the use of one word to end one chapter and begin the next. Very clever device. I’ve got A Watermelon, a Fish and a Bible, by the same author, to read soon.
