Read chapter 1 this am.
So the story picks up where book one left us. For a few paragraphs I thought that (view spoiler)[we were diving straight into a romance. Glad we are not. While I am sure it will end up there at some point in the series, I do not think it would serve the story right now. (hide spoiler)]

I think I'm going with 2nd in series.

I'm about half way through chapter 3. I think this would be a (view spoiler)[ very niche romance where one of the lovers has to nip the other to keep her in line LOL I still reckon she'll end up with the cop but I'm also enjoying the lack of a love interest 😉

Starting to read the 1st one "Written in Red" Ill try to join in this one later this month :) looks promising, (only at 5% of the 1st one and already enjoying the story).

This is going fast.... I just finished chapter 11

sorry Margo but (view spoiler)[I think your hopes for a Monty and Meg are kaput. It would be suicide by date. I was saying earlier, i think that a Meg /Simon romance would not serve the story at this point. I guess that Anne Bishop is not of that opinion as it does seem that it is coming.

Meg: it is good that we know a bit more and there are hope of dining more info on how she can deal with her cutting. I am still not sure of the real agenda of Dr Lorenzo, but he seems to want to help.

I am really curious about the intuits community. I would love to know more. Do you think tht Jean vision of her holding a hone jar means that she`ll end up there?

Burke and Kat: I like them. They are grounded in reality.

As Lakeside other are a bit more visible, i do not think the town would have gone so "anti-Others" if not for the blizzard of the 1st book. the fact that out-of-towner humans started it did not make a difference but that is human. We only have to watch the news to confirm. (hide spoiler)]

chapter 19

I am not sure that the Lakeside shop`s realise that by refusing orders they would initiate a new commerce trade with the great island. Honestly. fresh baked and custom are probably better. I am sure it will not be the only trade with that community.

Phineas finally makes his appearance. At least he did not have it easy. Hide the children indeed. And now Lakeside is aware of his presence.
Meere Lee is definitely taking her place in the community. She is a great help all around and has good idea. Did we ever know what she was studying at the uni? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11 (view spoiler)[I am shocked as the mass eviction of humans from jersey. This may even lead to famine. I understand that the Others are angry but I think they're being played.

Also I can't believe Montys ex thinks its OK not to tell him where she is bringing Lizzy to like. She is seriously nasty, why was he ever with her?

Up to now I've been having problems connecting with this story. It's probably me but it feels like its cutting from one scene to the next very abruptly. I'm glad that Meg and Simon are a bit more na5ural together, though I fear they will end up in bed 🙄 What's with the free lotion? Very suspect🤨

The thing with the sangiunati hand didn't really have the desired impact on me, I just kept thinking how much worse they could do to humans than sever a hand 😟

Literally just finished Written in Red last night and have read up to Chapter 3. (view spoiler)[ I do not want there to be a romance between Meg and Simon. Let them just be friends! The Going Over Wolf, could that be made from the blood of a blood prophet? I loved the scene where the cops are "teaching" the Others in A Little Bite how to be "human"! (hide spoiler)]

I am loving this series, I wished I found it sooner. At first it reminded me of the Shadow Hunter series by Cassandra Clare, but now I think it is actually much better!

Maybe but humans agreed to rules when they settled in. They forgot. I wish the Other would try diplomacy first but human are meat. The Lakeside Courtyard should help change things in the long run.

Hi all, I’m new to the group, and thought this looked fun.
So I finished reading it today. There were some parts I enjoyed, but most of it was kinda meh. Maybe because I didn’t read the first, so I’m missing something?
I was wondering if anyone else felt like there were a lot of little repeating phrases throughout the book?
I also felt kind of thrown by the tone. Sometimes I thought, oh this is supposed to be funny, but then it was actually quite serious. And sometimes I thought it was supposed to be serious, and then something comical would happen. Was this book supposed to have dark humor? Because I understand dark humor. I love dark humor. A Fish Called Wanda is a great example of dark humor. But I felt like the tone wasn’t quite there, and am at a loss as to what sort of tone was supposed to come across.

Hi Maria, welcome to the group.

Having not read the first you may have lost some world building and background stories that gave a bit of depth to the characters. Maybe you would have enjoyed it more, or maybe not as the tone was similar to this one.

(view spoiler)[I like Jean as a character. I think that if she survive to be and adapt outside, she will be a strong one. I hope we see her again.

Alan Wolfgard novels are a good reminder that different POV do exist. The bad are on the other side the the fence.

The meetings: In the first book, we knew that Lakeside was more open than the other courtyards but I had not realised how much. How can everyone get along when they never interact, or more to the point only do (violently so) when there is an issue.

Meg: the terrible creation, up on a table, scare of a mouse. Now there`s a picture.

Skippy: I have no idea what he is doing there.

(view spoiler)[Phineas, snake charmer indeed. Now we know how he is so successful. And he was prepared to kill himself obviously. He just did not bring any Other with him.

Funny how the Others now look at the girls. They sure made and impresion. Atlought, I am not sure they would appreciated the term exploding fluffballs. This being said, the girls are clever enough to realise that they are in a position to help the human-other relation and act accordingly. Small steps. of course, that is if the whole midwest does not vanished...

This book is so awesome. I just can't get enough. Had I not stumbled upon this buddy read, I probably would have missed this series. So I guess I am grateful.

Gunnit, if you do not want to risk spoilers, you should post this in the thread for Written in red . Also, it will give the opportunity to everyone that has read or is currently reading this book to discuss it.
Great that you are loving it. This series is going to be my "candy" reading for 2021 I think.
