welcome back! I can't wait to reread this book with you all and for you all to experience it - it's my favourite in the series!! I hope you enjoy being back with Vasya!

To start, let's read the prologue, part one and part two. This takes us up to page 113 in my copy and ends on the words "What are you doing here?" (oooooh)

How has this book been so far compared to what you expected?
What is it like being back with Vasya again?
Do you like the direction the story is going?
Any early predictions for the plot?
How does it compare to book one so far for you?
Any other initial thoughts?

Please no spoilers here for the rest of the book!

Monika | 8 comments So far, the story is continuing as expected. It's pretty similar in tone and style to the first one, but I think that will change a bit in the next part.
I much prefer being with Vasya than other characters, so I'm excited to see where her story goes.

Sara (pagesandprose_) | 10 comments I'm not sure if I was just tired when I read this part, but I think I enjoyed book 1's part 1 more. (Not that I'm not enjoying this, though!) I think it's just the case of things being set up in a world that I'm already familiar with, so I'm just getting antsy for answers! I am really interested in the creepy woman that people are dreaming about, Midnight and who she's working with, and the raiders. I liked how creepy parts of The Bear in the Nightingale got, so I'm excited about how we are already getting some creepiness in this book.

I love being back with Vasya, and I'm hoping that she starts to learn magic during this book, especially since it seemed like there were more hints to it. I am really interested in Olga and Sasha, but once Vasya saved those girls and became even MORE badass than before, now I just want to only follow her perspective.

Since we were presented with a decent view of what's going on with Olga and Sasha, I'm assuming all three siblings are going to be reunited (obviously this section ended with Sasha and Vasya reuniting). I'm especially looking forward to what happens if/when Vasya meets back with Konstantin and her ex-betrothed. I also suspect that we might not be done with the Bear? Maybe he has something to do with the raiders or even Midnight?

Kali (llamajesusbooks) | 4 comments I've been having a really fun time with this book, and so far I'm reading it much faster than I read the first book. I truthfully didn't go into this sequel expecting anything specific, other than Vasya maybe getting even more closely involved with the magical aspect of everything going on.

Vasya's perspective has been my favorite part of these books so far, so I'm beyond happy to be seeing so much of her so far. I can't wait to see what happens with her character now that she's been reunited with her brother and is in a totally new environment. I'm loving seeing her learn new things and try to thrive on her own, and I'm excited to see her grow even more as a character.

I'm not sure if I actually have any predictions for the rest of the books because I've basically been along for the ride in this trilogy so far. At the very least I'm sure we'll be seeing more badass Vasya, and hopefully more answers on whatever is going on with the bandits. There definitely seems to be more to all of those raids than meets the eye so I hope to see bits of that come together sometime soon. I have so many questions in general at this point that all I want to do now is keep reading to find out more of what is actually happening.

Kate (pagesprose) | 7 comments I was so glad to spend time with Sasha, as he was a character I was really interested in in the first book! But I absolutely love Vasya. Her absolute awe when she thought she found a big city was so endearing.

As for predictions? I have absolutely no idea! I'm sooo confused about what's going on with the Morozoko. Intrigued, but confused lol
