What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I think I would've read between 2010 and 2015 although can't be sure. The beginning is a boy being thrown around in the water at the sea and he drowns very close to the beginning of the story maybe even on the first page. I think it's a first person narrative from his point of view. After that I remember him being in a place he doesn't know and he enters a house similar to his family home (maybe, I can't remember if he recognises it or not) and there's a picture of horses on the wall in the living room which he finds horrific and terrifying. There might be a fire in the house after this or some kind of disaster. That's all I can remember. Thanks
