If you haven't read Moreno-Garcia, Mexican Gothic would be a great choice for "new to you author".

I have a copy of Mexican Gothic so thank you for reminding me, I am starting it right now -- been interested in this one for a while but wanted to wait for a quiet evening.

Johannes Cabal The Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard and We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix.

I ended up reading The Grip of It for this one. It's been on my TBR, and was available as an audiobook from the library. While most haunted house books have some kind of family disfunction as a subtext, this one has whatever the opposite of subtext is. Definitely recommended.

I plan to read The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris when it comes out in June. It's described as Get Out meets The Devil Wears Prada -- I'm there!
