what was your favorite book you read in 2020?

And what was your favorite book that was published in 2020, if it's different?

Any other interesting reading developments?

Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 1 -- or rather the series thus far, I think I can treat it as a single work.

Published this year, I think Aurora Burning

Or maybe Frozen Dreams. I shall have to nominate a category in which I can nominate it again.

2020 was the year I really got back into reading after many years of it just being a side recreation, thanks to an unexpected amount of time spent at home. I used to churn through 50-60 books/year as a teenager, but had fallen off considerably since college. Netflix only has so much good content (for me, I ran out of it in 10 days), but with books my queue keeps getting longer and longer (while Netflix got cancelled). So there was something good that came of this year.

Favorite books read this year (non-Book of the Month edition):

Today I Am Carey - Martin Shoemaker

Was expecting an Asimovian android tale, got that plus slice of life.

The Fall of Hyperion - Dan Simmons

Completely different book from the first book in the series, but I think it's even better. Memorable characters, great space opera pacing, a satisfying ending and the great prose Simmons always provides.

Favorite book published this year:

Demon in White - Christopher Ruocchio

Third in a sprawling space opera/fantasy series. It's told in first person, which you wouldn't think would fit that type of genre, but it works remarkably well. It's set in the far future, but most of the fight scenes are actually more akin to those you find in sword and sorcery tales. The world building is brilliant, which is what drew me into the series.
