Megan | 481 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Maybe? I think I'd want to read the rest of the trilogy, or at least the second one, before making a decision on whether to recommend it. I would recommend the collection of short stories (Kabu Kabu) that I previously read by this author though.

message 4: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1256 comments Title: Shuri, Vol. 1: The Search For Black Panther
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book?
I would definitely recommend this book to people that love the marvel universe. I gave this 5 stars and I really enjoyed the crossovers that happened.

Would you recommend this book? Maybe? Depending on the person. It wasn't my favorite but it isn't my favorite genre. I spent a lot of time in the beginning wrapping my brain around vocabulary, setting, etc. It took me a while to get into it. But it was a really fast read!

message 6: by Allie (new)

Allie (ab10) Title: Binti

Would you recommend this book? I don't think so. I was truly disappointed. I needed much more detail.

message 7: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 3 comments Title: Binti

Would you recommend this book? No. It felt rushed and I didn't feel like I understood what was happening the majority of the book.

message 8: by Britany (new)

Britany | 1698 comments Title: Binti

Would You Recommend: Yes, really strong world building and just short enough that anyone would enjoy it, especially if they were looking to get out of their reading comfort zone.

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura (agirlnamedstu) | 24 comments Title: Binti

Would you recommend: It was a quick read, but I wasn't in love with the story.

message 10: by Betty (new)

Betty Miller (bettymiller) | 8 comments Title: Binti

I would recommend this book, especially for someone who would like to try science fiction without committing to a full length novel.

message 11: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennymes) Title: The Search For Black Panther
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Yes, I really enjoyed this one. A great graphic novel!

message 12: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (bookishkylie) | 8 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would I recommend this book? Maybe? It depends on who. It’s a great introduction to this genre as it is a nice quick read, however that may also put some people off as it felt rushed and the vocabulary was difficult for me to understand in such a short read.

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 59 comments Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would I recommend this book? I honestly didn't enjoy it, but it is popular for a good reason, people enjoy it.

message 14: by Tara (new)

Tara | 2 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? It was very different from what I usually read. I felt like the book was a major set up for subsequent Binti adventures. I enjoyed it, but didn't LOVE it,

message 15: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Williams | 4 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Probably not, as I can’t say I truly loved it. But if they are a hardcore SciFi fan, then maybe.

message 16: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 236 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? No, but I don't care for science fiction. I was more fascinated with the human details of the otjize and the thoughts around that.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 20 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Possibly, it depends on the person. It was really well written and you get a sense of the world the author created but it ended very abruptly with a lot of questions unanswered. I know there are other books following so it might be best to read the whole series.

message 18: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (edylin) Title : the Fifth season
Author : N K Jemisin
Recommend? : This book was completely out of my comfort zone. I don't particularly like fantasy and I didn't like this book. It was too complicated, too dark and sad.

message 19: by Isabella (new)

Isabella Zohrab | 5 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Yes. It was really different from what I usually read so it was a nice change of pace to read something so fast-paced and so easy. It was amazing how quickly you understood the world and the characters in such a short book.

message 20: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 236 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Probably not. I am not a fan of science fiction, so I didn't really enjoy it. However, the anthropologist in me loved the parts where she discusses her people, and the Otjize and how and why her people use it.

message 21: by Lilith (new)

Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments Title: The Black God's Drums
Author: P. Djèlí Clark
Would you recommend this book? Yes, especially if you like strong Black Female leads! Plenty of LGBTQIIA+ representation. Well done to the author for researching and really trying to understand the orishas -- and the writing is close to my experience :)

message 22: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 41 comments Title: Binti

message 23: by Megan (new)

message 24: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (bookishkylie) | 8 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okirafor
Would you recommend the book? No, I wanted to like it but I felt it was flat and hurried. I haven’t and don’t intend to, read the other books in the trilogy.

message 25: by Teri (new)

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments Title: Binti: The Complete Trilogy
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book? Yes, and I already have. But it would have to be with the right person.

message 26: by Ami (new)

Ami Blackwell (amib1973) | 8 comments Title: Binti
Author: Nnedi Okorafor
Would you recommend this book: Yes! I wasn’t expecting to like it very much because I don’t enjoy sci-fi or aliens much but I found myself drawn in to Binti’s struggle within herself to accept the cultural differences she was trying to hold on to while also trying to evolve outside of parental expectations. I like the diversity aspect that was presented and feel it is quite fitting for today’s society.

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 903 comments Title: Binti

Would you recommend this book? I would recommend it to someone who likes novellas. I didn't quite work for me because it was too short, but otherwise I liked it.

message 28: by Tara (new)

Gem | 128 comments Title: The Obelisk Gate
Author: N.K. Jemisin
Would you recommend this book? Not sure - the series hasn't blown me away so far, but it's not actually bad. Maybe a recommendation with caveats?

message 31: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 51 comments Title: The Fifth Season
Author: N.K. Jemisin
Recommend: I felt thrown into the world at the begining and because I was too busy trying to figure out the different roles and languages it took me a bit of time to adjust and get into the story. Then I loved it. So yes I would recommend, but not for everyone.

message 32: by K.L. (new)

K.L. Middleton (theunapologeticbookworm) | 847 comments Title: Binti: The Complete Trilogy

Would you recommend this book? Definitely! I really enjoyed reading the novellas (and short story) in this collection, and plan to read them again in the future. I feel like this book will turn out to be one that reveals something new each time it is read.

Would you recommend this book? Having read the other two novellas in this series, I decided to complete it for this month's reading challenge. I highly recommend. Beautiful voice, interesting world.

message 35: by Kaia (new)

Kaia | 235 comments Title: How Long 'til Black Future Month?
Author: N.K. Jemisin
Would you recommend this book? Yes. Like all short story collections, not every story resonated with me, but it was a good mix and there were plenty of brilliant stories. There were also some that didn't fit the traditional sci-fi/fantasy mold - more literary or experimental - that mean even people who aren't normally fantasy readers should find something to enjoy.
