The Christmas Heist by Kimberly Hammer The Christmas Heist by Kimberly Hammer in Kindle
Eight year old Maddie has decided to show all the people of his town the true meaning of Christmas. He feels everyone looks distracted or sad. He and his best friend Peter have put together a list of people that need special gifts in their lives. One being Maddie's single mother who is concerned of losing her teaching position. Sending a secret letter to the Mayor to seek help for all the teachers to keep their position. Peter and Maddie bring in another young boy, Owen, who is in desperate need of friends to help in the antics. The thoughts and compassion these three boys bring is a heartwarming part of this book. Thee antics are very amusing. I did found it a bit difficult having an eight year old acting and speaking more like an 18 year old. It was a bit sappy in parts, but all in all, a delightful holiday story. Makes you think about how you perceive Christmas. I believe this would be a great story to read to children through the holiday season.

Return to Virgin River (Virgin River, #19) by Robyn Carr Return to Virgin River by Robyn Carr in Hard Cover
Kaylee Sloan has run away to Virgin River to stay in a home of friends that lived ther when she was a child. They have let her use the place to finish her novel and get some respite and healing time since her mothers death. She and her mother were the closest of friends and she is having a very difficult time moving on. She is dishearten when she gets to the cabin only to find it in flames. She has no idea what to do next. She is taken to the local bar that Jack Sheldon owns. Him and his wife take her in until she can decide what to do. Landry Moore is an artist and dog trainer in the area. He helps Kaylee out by letting her stay at a cabin next to his home. He helps Kaylee not only overcome her terrible fear of animals, especially dogs, but also to help her with her grief and to open her heart to a new life. I have read all of the Virgin River books in the series and Thunder Point. I have loved all the characters of Virgin River. I really found this book lacking. Although coming back to Virgin River was great, it was way to 'busy' with so many character to keep track of. I really didn't care for the character if Kaylee. The story line was alright, but the characters were blah. I have to say I was very disappointed. I would not consider this a 'stand alone' book. If you don't know the backwound of the place and characters, you would be very lost and confused. 3 star review

Cowgirl Fallin' for the Ranch Hand Western Romance (Brides of Miller Ranch, N.M. Book 2) by Natalie Dean Cowgirl Fallin' for the Ranch Hand: Western Romanceby Natalie Dean on Kindle
From the beginning of this book, I felt it had a lot of potential. The storyline seemed to be very interesting. As I got into the book, I was confused about who all the characters were. I didn't read the first book so I don't feel this could be a stand-alone book. Or, the author should have spent more time describing the characters and their backgrounds. I never did get the whole story about Cassi's accident. The relationship between Mick and Cassi could have been more interesting and romantic. I would have liked to have read more about a rich, entitled woman, and a poor black man who dealt with obstacles not only in society but also in the family atmosphere. I found the book very boring and found myself scanning through most of it. I felt Cassie being a spoiled, rich kid who didn't like being inconvenienced and I felt Mick was a bit flakey when it came to his horse. The romance part just continues to drag out. I feel I am being generous with a 2 star review.

The Governess Gambit (The Wild Wynchesters #0.5) by Erica Ridley The Governess Gambit by Erica Ridley on Kindle
This is a prequel to the series. I didn't know this. I didn't consider this a romance but it gets you introduced to the main characters. Most of them the Wynchesters. All orphans that were brought in by a wealthy foreigner and made to be a family. Each person having their unique talents and personalities. They have heard of the horrible orphanage in the area run by a greedy tyrant of a woman. The plan is to shut this place down and save all the children. They all devise a plan to get into the orphanage and get evidence. With that, a crazy broke Duke has stolen their prize picture portrait. Trying to get the son to turn it over has proven less than favorable. The story was fun, but I didn't like being left hanging. Can't really call it a Historical Romance as there was none. Hope to someday read the next book. 3 star review

Daring Deception (Off The Grid FBI Series Book 9) by Barbara Freethy Daring Deception by Barbara Freethy on Kindle. ARC
When the bomb went off in the building her father had erected on her campus, Caitlyn Carlson's life changed forever. Ten years later she is now a tough, focused, and determined FBI agent. She is determined to find out who set that bomb and make them pay. So when she hears another bomb has gone off at the same campus, she is brought back to past heartaches and pains and the remembrance of a love lost. Quinn Kelly has not only disappeared after that fateful time ten years ago but has changed his identity. He also finds himself on the same campus ten years later to see the love of his life who he ran away from after she was badly injured in the blast. Now Caitlyn and Quinn find themselves working together on the latest bombing, but are also discovering how the one in their past is tied together to this one. This was such an exciting and amazing book!! So many twists and turns and also a second chance romance. So much suspense and mystery. I never would have gotten the "whodunit". What a surprise! I have read others in the series and loved them. I found this is a stand-alone book and I didn't need to have read all of them. I read this on Kindle and the proofing was not very good. Many errors, otherwise I would have given it a 5+ review. Even this being said, I would still definitely recommend this book.

The Melody of A Lady's Heart by Aria Norton The Melody of A Lady's Heart: A Historical Regency Romance Book by Aria Norton on Kindle. ARC
Lady Helena Barclay is so moved by a violinist's performance at the opera, she decides she just has to learn to play the violin. Her musical ability is overwhelming, that she feels she can learn it easily. After badgering her parents and again getting what she wants, she is dumbstruck when she finds her new tutor to be no other than the violinist, Nathaniel Baudelaire, whom she met at the opera. Nathan has always loathed the aristocratic bunch after his own mother was left by one when she became pregnant with him. Nathan was quite taken with Helena when she approached him at the opera until his boss came and started talking with her. Then it seems he was cast off by her. So it was also his surprise to find out his new student is no other than Lady Barclay. This story and romance take's many twists and turns. We find out much about these two characters throughout the book. A sweet, historical romance. I did find though, that it got terribly dragged out and it needed to be proofed better. Other than that, I really enjoyed the storyline.

In Debt to the Cowboy (Miller Brothers of Texas #2) by Natalie Dean In Debt to the Cowboy by Natalie Dean in PDF form, ARC
Two different people coming from two different worlds are thrown together in quite an unusual way. Silas comes from a million dollar empire in ranching and Teddy comes from a more impovrished life style. She being adopted and brought up as a mechanic in the rougher part of town. They both have so much to learn from each other about life and love. There is always one person who is the "nasty" in the story who tries to break the spirit of both and keep them apart. The story can make you laugh and make you cry. It will open your eyes to some of the more sadder and uglier parts of the world. This is the second book of the Miller Brother series but can certainly be read as a stand alone. A clean, wonderful, romantic novel. I would definetly recommend it. 5 stars

Cowgirl Fallin' for the Neighbor Western Romance (Brides of Miller Ranch, N.M. Book 3) by Natalie Dean Cowgirl Fallin' for the Neighbor: Western Romance by Natalie Dean in PDF form. ARC
Clara is the middle child of the Miller family. Six feet tall and a larger size girl with a heart of gold, compassion, and respect for her fellow persons and animals. When she is given the task from her church group to deliver meals and help someone in need, she doesn't think twice. Nathan Westbrook, a man who is a self-sustained homesteader is now a lonely, sad, angry, disabled, bitter man after being struck by lighting. He is in constant pain, has ugly scars from the strike itself, burn and grafting scars, and suffers now from PTSD. When Clara arrives for the first time, she finds him on the floor his kitchen in pain, ashamed and embarrassed. He only wants to be left alone in his misery and takes it out on Clara. Clara has a way of breaking down his armor and the two of them find they have more in common than they realize. This is a clean, romance book. It shows the compassion and love of family, and the fight someone will take to be "the leading man." Although it got rather 'sappy' at times, it was a beautiful story.

Stealing the Earl's Heart by Aria Norton Stealing the Earl's Heart: A Historical Regency Romance Book by Aria Norton on Kindle. ARC
A young lady, Charlotte, who has taken to thievery to keep her destitute family from losing their home and honor. After her father died, they discovered he had mistress and two legitimate children and also they had no more money. To keep her mothers standing, for what it was in the community, she let people think the children were hers and she took to stealing from others just to put food on the table. Her mother has a tremendous gambling debt from which she was scammed into, and if it isn't paid, the awful Duke, whom her mother owns the gambling debt to, will either take their house and land, or she becomes his mistress. Charlotte learns about Francis, The Earl of Totnes mothers pink diamond and that it would cover the debt. She leaves for London to stay with a friend and devises a way to steal it. The major plot thickens when the Duke himself catches her in the act. From then on, the story has many twists and turns. I found the story line fun and interesting at first, but then it dragged on so badly, I was scanning, turning pages just to move on. There were too many subplots to keep track and I found that horribly distracting. The proofing of the Kindle version is atrocious! Wrong names being used, grammar awful. I was deeply disappointed in this book as I have read many of her works that I really enjoyed. 2 stars
