Brian Tsao | 1 comments To clarify I’m not interested in political plots or sci-fi or fantasy. I’m looking for preferably stuff that is hard boiled, gritty, surreal and has a freewheeling magpie structure like Pynchon/Murakami. I just don’t engage AS MUCH with flat out genre or fantastical or “fictional supernatural world” stuff as much but Lynchian and bizarre elements is totally fine

Some movies/shows to highlight would be Under the Silver Lake, Noroi: The Curse, True Detective and Lynch’s Blue Velvet. are a good example as well. Stories with mysteries and happenstances that draw the main character in like quick sand until the revelations and people they encounter become more and more ominous , hard to piece together and bigger than they ever anticipated.

Dawn | 547 comments Blue Velvet is one of my favorite films! I can't recommend exactly what you're looking for, tbh I'm looking for the same, but here are a couple I just thought of that are slightly similar in different ways: You and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
