Discord is a VoIP, instant messaging and digital distribution platform designed for creating communities. Users communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media and files in private chats or as part of communities called "servers".

Ah okay, thank you!

Do we set up a thread for our buddy reads or does a admin have to do this? :)
Hi Laura,
Members can set up threads for buddy reads. Before setting up a thread post to the Buddy Read Notice Board to make sure there are other members interested in reading the same book and to set up a good time to read it.

Please see message 8 above. Buddy Reads are available for longer book discussions.

Well, voting ends November 28th. The winning book becomes an "Upcoming Pre-read" topic on December 1st. Since this poll is for January 2022 books, the book will travel to "Current Reading" on January 1st. Hope this helps!

The ComManda, some things like adding a link to a book work better on a computer. it is fine if your suggestion isn't linked. it will still be accepted as long as it fits all the criteria.

ooh! thank ya (:

Also, if you know any virtual book clubs where about 5-20 people get together on a video call to discuss books, then please let me know. I would love to be a part of a community where we read the same book and then discuss it at leisure :)

Well, so far our book discussions are text-based, but you bring up an interesting idea, which we will be exploring. Thank you for the suggestion!

Megha wrote: "How do I find Book of the month easily? I just joined this group today. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you."
Welcome Megha! The current BOTMs are listed as "Currently Reading" when you enter the group's page. Next month's BOTMs are also listed as "Upcoming Reads". Top right corner has an icon called Group Discussions and there you can find all your group affiliations for easy access. Hope this helps!

Hi Ibrahim. Thanks for the good idea! We'll explore it for future upgrades. For the time being, we're text-based only.

Hey Rashi! I am a little late to your comment but I was wondering if you have found some groups with this videocall feature you mention, as I would love to join smth similar, be it on discord or zoom.

I am looking for the TBR challenge from 2022 as i was going to review my entry. I can't seem to find it ...

Thanks, Betsy. Not sure whyI couldn't find it ... I appreciate your help!

Firstly, thank you for these past years, both as a member and later as moderator. It has been a great time, full of discussions and challenges.
It's with sadness and gratitude that I am now stepping down as moderator and passing the baton on.
Wishing everyone well, wherever you may be.
Warmest blessings and HAPPY READING!
Betsy
How many books does the group read a month?
The group reads 3 books a month:
- one classic (published 1969 or earlier),
- one modern classic/best-seller (published 1970 or later), and
- one "bookshelf catch-up" book which is a reread of a book on the club's bookshelf.
You can find all previously read books on the group's bookshelf. As for current reads, you can find groups discussions here.
3 books? Do I need to read them all?
We have 3 books a month for flexibility, you do NOT need to read them all. In fact, you don't need to read any if you don't have interest or don't have time. There are plenty of other ways to participate!
How and when do I nominate books to be read?
Head on over to the BOTM Suggestions Folder . You can nominate books for different monthly categories there. Suggestion discussions are open for the first two weeks of every month preceding polling.
When are BOTM (book of the month) polls open?
BOTM polls will be open for the last of every month to decide books for the following month. Ex. Polls are open the last week of January to decide March BOTMs. Vote on polls here.
Recommendation Requests
If you have a specific request for book recommendations, head on over to the Recommendation Requests folder and scroll through existing topics or start a new topic with your requests!
Thanks all!
