Gents ... Ladies;

I have invited you to a group reading event. Please post two titles you think are worth reading.
We shall then poll one title and start the book reading campaign.

My suggestion is (because I cant think of anything else) :
1- The Lost Ring

message 2: by UmAzzan (new)

UmAzzan Al Riyamia because I am going to get it from Amna soon, I am suggesting:
الأشياء تبدو أقرب في المرآة - سليمان المعمري

message 3: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments I go for the same Um Azzan since i can also get it from Amna =)

Said, did the price of the book go down?

message 4: by Said (new)

Said AlMaskery | 45 comments Mod
No, it hasnt.

But nothing passed through my mind except that book. I wasnt really serious unless someone changes my mind. :)

We now have 3 votes for
الأشياء تبدو أقرب في المرآة - سليمان المعمري

message 6: by Fatma (new)

Fatma I will also vote for:الأشياء تبدو أقرب في المرآة - سليمان المعمري
because I want to read for an Omani author.
maybe I can get a copy from Amna too :)

The second book I suggest is: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I wanted to read it long time ago but I didn't have the time or mood earlier.

message 7: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments That makes it Four of us :)

Will try to get the book as soon as possible and start reading. Though i think we can finish it in one week since it is only 90+ Pages :)

message 8: by آمنة (new)

آمنة السناني (amna2) I agree on the book الأشياء أقرب مما تبدو في المرآه, except that i have already read it. The book is only 92 pages and can be finished in one day.

message 9: by GazelleR (last edited Oct 04, 2009 12:10PM) (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments I think we might have a problem of all getting the same book!

message 10: by آمنة (new)

آمنة السناني (amna2) Reem wrote: "I think we might have a problem of all getting the same book!"

I will try get another copy of the book, if i succeeded i will let you know. if not, then i think there is no problem in circulating the available book between the members

message 11: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments Thank you Amna =)

message 12: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments I got my copy today from النادي الثقافي الكائن بالقرم.

I'm pretty sure I have the book somewhere. Will start reading it as well.

At least it is a starting point! ;)

Where in Al-Qurum? I should get my copy too.

message 15: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments
- Reach to the small round about passing qurum park gate on your left hand.

- take right turn from the round about as if you are going up to end up in PDO road.

- you will first pass by AMIDEAST on your left, go straight for a while and keep checking your left side and you will find this big villa of two floors and huge space, that is the culture club.

Their number is 24 56 34 00
if you need more information

they work from 8 - 1:30 and then again from 5 - 9 but i think it is better to call before since they have alot of construction going on there currently and their library is kind off closed.

message 16: by Fatma (new)

Fatma Thank you Reem. I never knew of this club, Do they sell works for Omani authors only?

message 17: by GazelleR (new)

GazelleR | 23 comments They dont sell. You Borrow and then they give you free copies to take home hehehe

NGO = Non Governmental Organization - No Profit.

I got like 12 books or so of Omani Authors few for Sulieman Al Maamari, poets, stories...etc. Feel free to take since i dont read poets.

They also organize lectures and conferences around the year.. I used to hear about them more when i was at school and university since they use to sponsor some of the events but not anymore recently.

message 18: by Fatma (new)

Fatma Ok, I will check them out.
By the way, I don't read poets also :)

message 19: by آمنة (new)

آمنة السناني (amna2) Today is the day we nominated for an online reading event, i tried to create a new post for the discussion, i couldn't find from where to post a new thread.

I believe you all finished reading the book, i have read it before the reading invitation. I remember little about the stories, but i still remember that i liked half of the stories.

Someone please start a topic, and we (the 5 of us who said yes - UmAzzan, Said, Fatma, Reem and Amna) all join the discussion thered, tell us what you liked-disliked about الأشياء أقرب مما تبدو في المرآه
(someone please remind me what is the tite about?)

Thanks

hello everyone
nice to see this kind of activity from Oman
for a while i thought i was the only member from oman here!!
about the books you're looking for, have you considered e-books??
they are easy to find, and to deal with.
thanks for the club.

Hello Siju, actually I have considered e-books but I think finding Omani e-books is nearly impossible. Also I don't like to read books on my PC.. I am a bit old fashioned and love to read real books with real paper laying on my bed :)

But since it is hard for most of us to get the books suggested earlier, we can start our book club by reading an e-book that one of us have and can email it to the others. How about that?

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

hi Fatma, and everyone...
how about this:
decide a book, or more, and give me the titles..
i'll search for e-books
and if I found it, I'll let you know.
and give a copy to Said, so he can e-mail it to everyone.

I'm waiting for your reply.. :)

message 25: by Fatma (last edited Aug 14, 2010 10:50PM) (new)

Fatma Ramadhan Kareem everybody,
Siju, do you think you will be able to find Arabic books? I want to read anything by the Egyptian author Yousuf Edrees.
If not, I have e-books for Ahmed Khalid Tawfik if anyone is interested by Arabic Horror Books.

In case you prefer English books, I don't have anything specific in mind. What are your suggestions?

message 26: by آمنة (new)

آمنة السناني (amna2) Hello,

I agree on what you agree, but no too long books.

Fatma Mashallah Amna, What a list you have.
Do you prefer one of these books?

Siju and I have found some books by Yousuf Edrees, they are:
لغة الآي آي
العسكري الأسود
and there is a short stories collection.

the first book is also a collection of short stories.

Can we choose one of these? I really want to read something by Yousuf Edrees.

message 29: by آمنة (new)

آمنة السناني (amna2) Yes sure. I prefer the ones you & Siju suggested.
Lets start reading العسكري الأسود.
