Roughly 2012/2013 I read what I believe was a YA book with a middle eastern/central Asian setting about a princess and her servant trapped in a "tower" with a hole for food and air. A prince communicates with the "princess" through the servant and the servant begins to fall for the prince. Eventually he rescues them and takes them back to his home. The prince realizes the princess is nothing like the person he'd been talking to and falls for the servant. The servant has a skin condition, most likely vitiligo.
