1. Senegal: God's Bits of Wood (Planned)
2, Libya: Libya: The Elusive Revolution (Planned)
3. Mauritania: Sahara (Planned)
5. Congo (Brazzaville): Facing the Congo: A Modern-Day Journey into the Heart of DarknessPlanned
6. Sudan: Who Fears Death (Planned)
My first one done. So Things Fall Apart has been shunted for the time being.

1. Senegal: God's Bits of Wood (Planned)
2, Libya: Libya: The Elusive Revolution (Planned)
3. Mauritania: Sahara (Planned)
5. Congo (Brazzaville): Facing the Congo: A Modern-Day Journey into the Heart of DarknessPlanned
Number two, another one about a remarkable young woman, this time with special powers, seeking to realise her destiny in a future Sudan.

Bit of a mixed bag really, with the first two books completed, monthly reads from another club. Both turned out to be great picks I must say.
I truly enjoyed Nnedi Okorafor's Zahrah the Windseeker and also the Binti trilogy.
Who fears death is also on my list. I had no idea it was about Sudan.

A different Sudan but with a few harsh reminders of the Sudan of our time.

2, Libya: Libya: The Elusive Revolution (Planned)
3. Mauritania: Sahara (Planned)
5. Congo (Brazzaville): Facing the Congo: A Modern-Day Journey into the Heart of DarknessPlanned
A great read about a watershed moment in Senegal from a time when the enemies were easier to identify, and usually from the outside. I loved the recognition of women as a political force, and although fictional, how women through a march were the agents of spreading a new political consciousness in the region.

3. Mauritania: Sahara (Planned)
5. Congo (Brazzaville): Facing the Congo: A Modern-Day Journey into the Heart of DarknessPlanned
A book that started filling in the blanks about the history of Lybia, and the coming to power of the charismatic Muammar Ghadafi. This book was not just an introduction to Libya and Big Brother (Ruth was critical about the domination of the individual), but also to the author herself. Assassinated by the Apartheid state just before I started becoming politically active, her clear and insightful writing here makes clear the huge loss suffered by South Africa.

5. Congo (Brazzaville): Facing the Congo: A Modern-Day Journey into the Heart of DarknessPlanned
A travelogue through the countries of the Sahara Desert by a favourite actor, turned writer.

A great satirical novel with which to end of this challenge. I loved this one.
