I just now saw that there was a tie for the February Non-King book so I'll post both books and people can just pick which one they want to read. Please mark all spoilers for those reading along.

Lacey | 17 comments The first 100 pages were decent, 3.5, nothing special. And then the whole story ramps up into a 5. Anyone else reading this one?

I read it a few months ago and remember loving it. I've read several Sherman Alexi works and this has the same "Indian on the reservation" vibe... desperate fatalism plus the incredible importance of basketball. I won't comment on the things that are revealed but they are amazing.

Alicia A. | 21 comments It just wasn't for me, I gave up after about 90 pages.

ElleEm | 260 comments I read it a few months ago and it was my favorite book of 2020 and one of my favorites of all time. It took a few pages to get into his writing voice and rhythm but after that I was all in.

Grant | 11 comments This was my favorite novel of 2020. I agree that his writing style took some getting used to, though after that, I was pulled into the story and didn't want to put it down. I loved how each act of the story felt like a different sub-genre of horror. It was a very original book. Highly recommended!

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Also, it takes a while to figure out what's going on just as the characters are trying almost throughout the whole book to figure it out. That's part of the secret.
