When Kim and her team deduce that Woody’s granddaughter would be the next target, she contacts Detective Superintendent Baldwin to send a support team to his cabin location and he deliberately misleads her into thinking he’d comply. Your thoughts about what should happen to him? Will the reality be different?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I just wish either Kim or Woody would have confronted Baldwin at the end of the book. I wanted an explanation. I know Baldwin thought that Kim was a trouble maker and ran her investigations the way she wanted them which he didn't like. But you can't shrug off Kim's record of getting the bad guys. I thought he would have listened to her and either send the support team or told her that he absolutely wasn't doing it. I also thought his secretary would tell the truth the first time someone mentioned the fact that no support team was on its way. Guess she was afraid of getting fired.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Again it worked for the story but not sure that would have happened IRL. A Commander at Baldwin's level wouldn't have just not carried out what Kim requested just because he didn't like her. She is a decorated Officer with a solid track record and especially it concerned Woody a fellow Officer.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I expect that Woody will see some discipline/justice meted out to Baldwin.

Unfortunately, Lisa, I’ve seen this kind of stuff done in real life having worked around some real weasels. They do it because they think they can get away with it. Remember, he thought Woody was coddling Kim and this was his way of teaching her a lesson.

Robin, I wanted to see him get his “justice” before the story ended. People almost died because of Baldwin’s duplicity. He gambled and lost in a big way.

I’m not sure what Woody will do or even can do.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Baldwin made me angry. It was unprofessional and vindictive. He deserves a reprimand at least. I was angrier with his assistant. She knew Baldwin was trying to teach Kim a lesson and didn't say anything. I understand that she could be worried about her job, but police unions wouldn't allow her to be fired.

Like Kim said, if Baldwin didn't agree to backup she could come up with a backup plan.

Woody told Kim he would do something. I wanted to see what that was by the end of the book. My guess is Woody will file a complaint.

Yeah, I was disappointed in the assistant, too.

I would have liked that confrontation too.

Lynn (ftbooklover) It is tough to take down someone who is a superior. The #metoo movement has shown us that.
