Support for Indie Authors discussion

Hello everyone!

It's my first time posting here. I've been scouring the internet but still couldn't find an answer to my question.

I have pre-orders for my debut novel 'The Art of Becoming' set up in a few ways.
- KDP e-books
- KDP paperbacks (set up for pre-orders with IngramSpark)
- Draft2Digital for wide e-book distribution

The problem I have is that I cannot find the paperback preorders anywhere, neither on KDP or IS (and I know some people have preordered it through amazon). When I look at Ingramspark -> reports -> preorders I can't see anything. Same on KDP itself. Does anyone know what I have to do, or where I have to look, to track my preorders?

Same problem for D2D. I can't seem to find any of the preorder reports. I've looked everywhere and tried to research it online but found nothing.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I don't think the paperback preorders show up until they are printed and shipped (or very close to being shipped). I noticed that myself just recently when someone told me that they ordered one of my books (had to be paper based on the country they live in) and I didn't see anything for a couple of days.

If you have Chrome as your browser, download an extension called Book Report. open your KDP dash borad, then the extension. Put in the book you want it to look up and it will give you the information for Amazon.

Thank you for the replies. I installed Book Report with chrome but I still don't get any information. It's as if nobody has preordered yet when I know for a fact people have. Maybe I should be patient and wait for a few days...

If it didn't show up on Book Report, there have been not payments processed. It is more accurate than the dash board. It showed me preorders before Amazon did.

Getting information from other places is difficult. I patiently wait for my quarterly reports.

My experience has been that paperback sales don't show up on the KDP Dashboard until the book has been printed and shipped.

Thank you for the insights. I'm really bummed that I can't track how many there are, but it's good to know that it's normal that they're not showing up.

Them not showing up until the payments are processed makes sense I guess. I've seen that the money will not be deducted from their credit cards until the book is being printed and shipped, maybe that's why.

Nice to meet you. I have a question:
I had my book on pre-order with the old version of my manuscript. I uploaded the new manuscript in April, but Amazon printed the old version and then held on to it. The books being mailed now are the incorrect upload. When I reached out to Ingram Sparks they said that Amazon does that. The next batch they order should be the correct version. Also, the "Look Inside " Feature still showed the older version. I asked them to remove that feature completely. I find that when you publish solely with Ingram Sparks, Amazon does not help you as much as they could. It is difficult to deal with these urgent situations via email. The next time I would make sure that the version I upload is the correct one before I see any pre-order dates. It is a huge mistake I did not know about. I think it is better to go Live and have no preorder dates to avoid this mess all together which I had done with my previous books.

It's always better to upload to Amazon directly and use a platform only for the other retailers. Yes, you'll need to deal with two set-ups instead of just one, but you'll get better support on Amazon that way. My direct upload paperback was updated relatively fast.
