Sorry to be pedantic but there are 5 kingdoms of living organisms and fungi is one of them whilst flora is another. Flora are classified as organisms that can make their own food. Fungi cannot do this.
I'll nominate The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett! A garden consists of plants which are flora.
I’ll nominate Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews.Flowers are flora, so that’s the connection! I’d love a good excuse to prioritize this book as I’ve never read it.

I nominate The Ten Thousand Doors of January. It was a finalist for numerous awards in 2019-2020 -- Goodreads, Hugo, Audie, etc. -- and it connects to the flora theme because of the gorgeous flowers in the cover art.

I'm not sure whether to accept this nomination or not. I haven't read The Hate U Give so I can't tell if people would want to read that one first.

It doesn't really matter though. As long as you see a connection to Flora that is all that matters, what the connection is is yours to choose :) It can be as loose as you thought of this book when you read the theme of the month ;)

You can only either nominating or seconding a book. I have put down your nomination. Since someone already have seconded The Name of the Rose your second wouldn't change anything. Third or fourth a book doesn't change if it makes the poll or not :)

I would say the two books can be read in either order and work as stand-alones but I’m happy with whatever decision you make, Winter. The one thing guaranteed from this group is there will be plenty of excellent books to chose from by the time nominations close.

I guess that is true. I hadn't thought about any of that in about 40 years. I do really want to read the fungi book, however, perhaps a buddy read one month this summer?

Historically they were considered flora it just turned out they were so interesting that they needed a group of their own as nothing else is like them!

I think maybe I'm not going to allow it. I'm sorry :( I just feel like most would like to have read the publishing order and opening up for one prequel opens up for all of them.

I nominate Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi . The association is because of the flowers on the cover (another version), Flora is so closely associated with Ghana, where the book is based, with their evergreen forests. It's a book written by a woman about women - Women represent flora :)

I’m a little newer to this group but am eager to start participating I’m gonna recommend The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender for May but I am looking forward to reading a lot of books on this list.
