I had forgotten what a fun writer MacInnes is. Spies! Spies! Spies!

Cheryl | 1164 comments It sounds good, Adelaide. I’ll be joining the group read when my book comes in at the library. It’s currently checked out from my local library, so I had to request a copy from another branch.

Sarah (sarahmott) | 462 comments I just got my copy! Will report back soon.

Cheryl | 1164 comments I got the book from my library (finally) and am enjoying it. I like that it jumps into the spy action right away. This author is new to me, and so far I like her writing style.

Cheryl | 1164 comments Le Happening - I can picture a place like that in spy movies from the Sixties, like Our Man Flint and Casino Royale. Very groovy!

She's a great writer.

Cheryl | 1164 comments There is exposition in the story, as Sarah mentioned, showing us what a character is thinking as he puzzles through the actions of the spies. For me, this actually helps me keep everything straight. Sometimes I read a spy novel and I even wonder if I undestood everything correctly.

I kind of see this book as a spy novel for people who are intimidated by spy novels. The author is keeping the reader well informed of what's going on, so they don't feel lost and can enjoy the story. I can see some readers preferring to figure things out for themselves, though. It's just a personal preference kind of thing.

I am so glad you dig it!

Cheryl | 1164 comments For some reason, I haven’t been getting a notification about posts in this thread today. I have to go to “unread topics” to see what’s been posted. Is there a bug? I have everything set correctly for my group settings, and this thread also shows “notification only”so it should work.

I just tried changing the setting from Notification Only to None to Notification Only again, so hopefully it will work now. Weird!

P.S.
I just looked at the Help page and others have posted that they’re having the same problem with Group Notifications. Hopefully it will get fixed soon.
