Who is reading this month’s book? I read it a while ago and remember it being different to the film :D

Michael | 63 comments I've reread it and posted a comment in the "Spoiler" thread.

It is certainly very different than the book. I think they incorporated some things from later books in the series into the movie, and the weapon the main villain uses is totally made up, as is the Thern's teleporting ability. Deja Thoris is also pretty much a "damsel in distress" in the books, not the butt kicking warrior/scientist she is in the movies.

I think I’d have enjoyed the book more if I’d read it first.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I'm about under half way through it. Took a while to get to some dialog, but it's moving at a slightly better pace now. I'd say I like it so far. I've only seen the 2012 movie version a while ago. Never read the book. Might watch the movie again after I finish.

The movie weapon (the disintegration ray) is actually from one of the later books in the series -- A Fighting Man of Mars, I think. I mostly enjoyed the movie, but it felt far enough from the source material that I had to kind of treat it as a separate thing.
