Raynah Depending on what you would like to do for your life, then a college or university education isn't essential. I have multiple family members who are happy with their life and they didn't go to college or uni.

sirius proserpine (weepumpkins) | 121 comments i definitely don’t think that college/university education is essential to live a fulfilled life, and certainly not to be an intelligent person. i am also of the opinion that it shouldn’t hold nearly as much weight as it does in modern western society (idk about other places since i’ve never lived there) and it should be easier for people without higher-level education to get safe & well paying jobs

Darby I think it depends on the person. It has nothing to do with an individual's intelligence, more their qualifications. So it really depends on the person. I definitely think a college education will greatly increase your salary in many cases, and your ability to be hired. As well as a bigger sense of different kinds of people, which would hopefully come with more open-mindedness. So, while there are a lot of benefits to the individual for a college education, someone can still be just as intelligent without.

It's certainly not necessary. It kind of depends on what the person is interested in, and what kind of life-style they want to live.

Maple (bookish_maple) For a lot of jobs, a college education is very important. One thing to remember is that college covers not just academic jobs - it covers music, dance, visual art, and more! A college education is not necessary for being successful. However, to be successful in a lot of jobs you do need a college education.
One thing that is important to remember is that not everyone can afford a college education - some people are really interested in a subject, and they could make a career out of that, but even if they are able to be dedicated they might not be able to afford the education that is necessary for that field. Yes, there are scholarships and other things to help people who can’t afford it, but some people still can’t go to college because they are unable to afford it.

xoxo.mackenzie (hamilton1) | 75 comments I believe that if you want to have a good job that pays well, you should go to college. Even if you can't afford a university, there is community colleges and online ones that are a lot cheaper. I would recommend everyone to shot for going to college, as I feel it gives you a boost and is a good experience. But if your fine with working at fast-food places, repair man, or uber driver your life, then good for you and live that life style.

I did not mean to offend anyone by the jobs I listed, then were the first ones that came to my mind.

jasmyn♡ As a college scholar and graduating next year! I went to university to become one aspect and get a degree. I experience that nowadays in time you may need to go to university for a pleasant job, except you wanna work at fast food chains and make the bare minimum!

message 9: by jasmyn♡ (new)

jasmyn♡ You also look better whenever you apply to a job and you have your college degree and that you attended, they might look more into hiring you! Especially right now, like college is seriously important. I am glad that I am going and that I so close to starting my career!

Also the pay. Go to college for something, you will make how much money you feel that you deserve. Don't fuck around in college though! That shit makes it look worse on you. Also don't put to much on yourself, college is fun, but once you test the waters it is over!

Lily (starlightmoonlight) | 23 comments The general rule is that the higher level of education you have, the more money you're usually paid and the more stable your job is. Still, some people go to college and come out and realize it's very difficult to find a job with their major and some people don't go to college and are very fulfilled and happy. And even if you work at a high-paying job after getting, say, a Master's, that doesn't mean that you will necessarily be happy or fulfilled.

With college being "essential" or not, though, most high-paying jobs do require collegiate education. College isn't essential, but it's mostly essential if you want to work in business, be a teacher, work as a lawyer, etc.
