Hi guys! What are the biggest problems you face in your society? Do you plan to take action? If so, how?

Anushka (bookish_swiftie) | 124 comments Biggest issues in my society would be gender stereotyping and unacceptance of LGBTQ+ community. Pollution is a big issue too.

I definitely want to take action against this. On how to take action, I believe that we should first educate ourselves on the topic, and then start taking simple steps at a personal level. Once you do that, educate people around you, like your family, friends, and neighbours. If you succeed there, then of course go campaigning around the world XD. But first, start at a smaller level.
Think global, act local.

izzy (izzybiz) | 28 comments I think the biggest issue is no one respecting each other. If we all respected each other’s beliefs and decisions we wouldn’t have so much violence. We would have so much more peace. If our society could do that, it would be such a wonderful development.

BiBookDemon There are a lot of issues right now, especially the fact that so many people refuse to wear masks! I'm not taking action against the mask thing (I truly have no idea how to) but I do volunteer for a charity. I'm the secretary of one of the school clubs, and right now we are raising money for a local wildlife rescue. I also volunteer for outreaches such as making cards for seniors and passing out supplies for the homeless. Recently I haven't done anything in-person cause of COVID, though.

probably the hypocracy and how everyone is anti-be-yourself. i know that no one is perfect, but it's not that hard to just....leave someone alone? ok i get it you might not like that fact that i wear the same damn pair of black jeans until there's a noticeable stain on it, and you might not like that fact that i'm questioning my sexuality, and you might not like how much of a bitch i can be if i don't like you "quirky" i am, but no one asked you to? like, don't go out complaining about how no one lets you "do your own thing" and then criticize everything everyone around you does. some people are just trying to be happy? and life isn't a walk in the park already, so don't mess up someone's day (or life) because you have some chipped nail polish a bad day
as for taking action, i have decided to get rid of my nonexistant filter and do everything people tell me not to do. RIP any conservative person around me. get ready for the real abby. i will be loud near people who tell me stfu. i'll act like my true panromanic self in front of any homophobe, and i'll eat the last slice of pizza. this will get me in a lot of trouble, but i'm here for a good time, not a long one. and yeah, this is my one-person rebellion at it's finest
*bows* thank you for coming to my rant ted talk

Maple (bookish_maple) People trying to make racial equity happen but then just ending up being racist
Kind of like what poet said.

message 9: by Darby (new)

Darby Indigenous cultural appropriation, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, (I'm a homeschooled girl in the South, it's quite annoying but oh well. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and generally they keep it to just opinions but ugh :(

Yard signs.
This is as good a sign of performative activism as it gets.
And the people in my town just buy these "fancy" ones with glitter and rustic wood..."

Ugh. That disgusts me. Things like Black Lives Matter are not a beauty contest. The point of it is to stand up against horrible things that are happening to people. I often see people( mainly white people) using horrible things happening in the world as a way to promote how "not racist" they are.

no matter what the yard sign says, i want to run it over when i see it. it gets pretty ridiculous. and YES @maple EXACTLY, this is racial injustice, not an arts and crafts class

Jazmin | 19 comments In Argentina there are many problems to solve, from economic and political issues to social ones.
We have an extremely high level of corruption, inflation has only risen for years, causing 40% of people in Argentina to be poor, with this thefts increase, insecurity in the country is horrendous, many people ended up dead because of robberies, something very usual. (this at the level of watching the news and seeing brutal robbery murders)
We are one of the Latin American countries with the most cases of coronavirus, the government closed shops although the vast majority of Argentines are sellers, or employees of some premises (restaurants, kiosks, bars etc) many people remained without work, but the most unfair is that a month ago they made a wake (something that has been prohibited by the covid for more than two years) to a famous person from Argentina with more than 100,000 people, it does not make any sense.
The new government released many criminals (rapists, murderers, thieves, etc.) from jail with the excuse of the coronavirus. When the reality was that they wanted to save money, these criminals again committed the same crimes or even worse. speaking of crime, in Argentina criminals leave at 10/5 years for good behavior, a murderer leaves in 10 years, a rapist in 3 and a thief in 1 or months, honestly it does not enter my head as they can do that.
On the social issue, I think that like all of Latin America, homophobic, SUPER racist, transphobic, VERY classist, etc. in itself thought of the third world.
This is the main thing about the atrocities that happen in Argentina (obviously bringing up the subject of human trafficking, stolen money, indigenous people, etc.)

* Discrimination against everyone and everything, and crime. Not for my town, but the whole world. There’s always going to be those people moaning and groaning about anything and everything. It’s sad really

Anushka (bookish_swiftie) | 124 comments I forgot to mention in my earlier comment- poverty and corruption are also big problems in my country.

A major part of the population is below the poverty line. This could be because of the huge population (India is the second most populated country), but I think it's also because of the corrupted government officials. They have so much money, they tax us so much. But hardly any of it is used to eradicate extreme poverty in the country. They make plans and schemes to help poor people all the time, but the funds given for this purpose usually never reaches the people.

Corruption in India is a cause for many issues in the country.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I live in the South East U.S. and my issue is mainly people really holding on to old beliefs... being racist and discriminating against anyone that's not the "norm", particularly people in the lgbtq community... personally I've had grown men approach me and harass me about my hair saying I'm a girl and should look like a girl kind of thing. There is also a large population of homeless people and there doesn't seem to be any real help for them and I hate it so much because these people wind up in jail simply for not having anywhere to go and I think that's horrible.

So many people litter in my tiny town. And make fun of LGBTQ+ people. I live in a very modern moving town so sometimes this surprises me. But I've come accustom to it and correcting people when making insults. These are all dimwits from my classes tho

message 19: by Uzair (new)

Uzair In my country i think it all stems from a lack of education.

Lack of women's rights , using religion as a scapegoat to commit atrocities and rile up people.
Even the rampant bribery could probably be traced back to a lack of education. No education = No Jobs = Weak ecconomy = Nepotism
