(view spoiler)
#1. Read a book
#2. Mark the book as read and tag it on the challenge shelf
#3. Go to the PLANNING SPREADSHEET and add the book you read to the BOOKS tab. Highlight tasks/bingo where the book may fit. If it's a particular hard task, you might fill in the correspondent space too. If you already did it, just add the read date.
#4. If you participate in the BOM discussions, fill that info. If not, go straight to #5
#5. Have Fun! And be a little mischievous after all, we're Rincewind.
#6. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Don't forget, when things get dire:

Hello Discworld visitors!!! Want Rincewind to
If looking for something specific, just go ahead and ask! Just beware we are prone to fix little problems by causing big disasters!
Not knowing what to read? Below is a selection of Rincewind's best reads:
◈ Recs by Sonia

Blood Heir is a Kate Daniels spin-off. If you haven't read that one, the first book is Magic Bites
◈ Recs by Kaley

◈ Recs By Laurie

◈ Recs By Sammy

◈ Recs By Suzanne

◈ Recs By Claire

◈ Recs By Vikki

-There are 41 Discworld novels in total (plus a whole load of short stories, but they don't meet the wordcount! they are however available in the anthology A Blink of the Screen: Collected Shorter Fiction, but I would recommend getting to know some of the novels first.).
-The series is split into several sub-series:
DEATH Series
City Watch series
Witches Series
Rincewind/wizards series
Tiffany Aching series
Industrial Revolution series
-There are also a handful of stand-alone books that don't fit into any series.
-Despite there being series and sub-series, you can read these books in any order you please. Every book has a stand-alone story, the only exception being books 1 & 2, which are basically one story split into two books. You don't have to start with book 1, but if you want to read book 2, it's a good idea.
-There are people who don't like the first two books much. I'm not one of those people, but if you start reading and find you're not getting on with it, it may be that you are. I'd suggest skipping to a later book in that case.
-There are very different types of stories and characters in this world. If you need help picking something you think would suit you, please holler.

done!
★ Cover items (Will consider using from the text if described properly)

As always, BOM participation is 100% optional, but there are reasons to join:
1. Points. just like regular BOM participation, the backroom books also get us an extra 20 points per person
2. Fun. The discussions in the backroom tend to be rowdy, and frequently on the hilarious side.
If you want to join (over 18s only!) you'll need to join The NBRC backroom
June's backroom BOM will be

JULY BACKROOM BOM
Because the (serious and scientific) discussions for the last one were so much fun, there will be another backroom BOM for July.
This time the book is

Fair warning: in a bid to find a book even more scientifically improbable than the last one, this one will contain Mpreg. If that isn't your cup of tea (and you aren't willing to do insane things for points like some of us nutters), we totally understand if you want to steer clear.
If you're feeling brave however, the discussion is going to be here

Despite Sammy our lovely co-captain being a hard core Discworld fan, I am completely ignorant.
Google is my friend, though, and after a brief research I discovered that
Rincewind is also renowned for being able to solve minor problems by turning them into major disasters
This right there, made my day in a way that is impossible to describe!!!

Meanwhile, a quick introduction, I'm Sonia, your captain for this ride. I'm also from Lisbon, Portugal and I never read Discworld before.
My favorite genres are Urban Fantasy, MM and romantic suspense. Brownie points to the authors that manage to get all three in one :D
I've also participated in all of the tower teams, so I'm quite excited for this round.
Some names are familiar from previous challenges, some not so familiar, and I'm really looking forward to playing with all of you.

Let's rock this challenge and make as much trouble as we can... with rule-following and good attitudes of course!!!!

As Sonia said above, I know a little *cough* about Discworld. As such, just give me a shout with any of your Discworld-related questions (such as interpreting some of the bingo images, for example) and I shall endeavour to explain in a way that makes sense (a first for Rincewind, I'm sure!)
Just remember You do not have to read a single Discworld novel during this challenge if you don't want to!
There are bonus points to be had if we do (up to 6 books for the challenge, so I suspect we'll fill that easily), and there are Discworld BOMs with extra points allocated for participation every month, but you should only join in if you want to. Basically, you read what you want to read, and if that happens to be Discworld, no-one will complain ;-)
Looking forward to some fun reading with you all!

Rincewind has neither of those, lol. ;)
But I suppose we should probably behave... ish...

Awesome! some would recommend you don't start with book 1, but I did, and it didn't hamper my enjoyment any. also, Rincewind is the MC, so good show of team spirit there! lol.

Rincewind is also renowned for being able to solve minor problems by turning them into major disasters
made me even MORE excited! That kind of defines my life :)
I've read quite a few Discworld books but Sammy I'll still need your expertise for Bingo!
I love Tower Teams and am so glad I get a chance to play. We will be travelling May 8 - June 11, but I should always have internet, and I'll actually have more time to read because I won't be teaching/grading - yay!
Looking forward to playing with all of you!

Sonia mentioned favorite genres - I tend to love fantasy of all types the most, but I like switching around a lot. I don't read a lot of non-fiction because of the whole escape thing.

So glad we have Expert Sammy with us!

Travelling not going to be much of an option here for a few more months at least, so will have to live vicariously through you. Please feel free to

Hi Laurie! Welcome to team Rincewind and to TT. It's a super fun challenge that lets you read pretty much whatever you want, which is always a win!
Well, luckily for you, the whole Discworld is fantasy-based, though if you enjoy YA, the Tiffany Aching sub-series may be of special interest to you. :)
The three BOM picks for the challenge, Equal Rites (witches), Mort (DEATH) and Guards! Guards! (City Watch) are all very good too (and each is the first in their respective sub-series - not that it would matter if you started elsewhere...)

first time TT-er
not entirely sure yet how this works, so may lurk in background for a little while till I get it figured out
have read a few Discworld
I'm from Ireland
tend to read mostly fiction - including sci-fi, fantasy, historical
some non-fiction - biographies, environmental, popular science
some recent favourites:

excited to start the challenge

I CACKLED when I saw Sonia's description of what Rincewind means. They definitely put me on the right team!
I believe this is my third Tower Teams, and this challenge always keeps me on my toes! I'll have to do a deep dive of the rules for this round later. I have never read a Discworld book, but I probably will at least attempt one during this challenge because I love bonus points!
Over the last year or so I've mostly stuck to romance books because they usually have a happy ending ... and that escapism has been what I've needed through the last year! I will occasionally throw in other genres like mystery/thriller, fantasy, etc. I tend to never say never to any genres :) Except nonfiction ... for some reason I usually can't get much into those, unless I am really into the topic/person being discussed.

Basically, the main goal of tower teams is to read. Whatever genre you like.
There's a couple of rules regarding page numbers and non allowed genres like picture books and graphic novels, to keep things fair to everyone.
To make things more exciting, they usually add some tasks, for us to match books. And joining the BOMs also give extra points, which we all love.
But, honestly, is to read what you feel comfortable with.
On my part, I usually have good intentions but keeping up with BOMs is a tad hard. Specially because I'm a mood reader, so, even if I'm excited with the prospect of reading a book, by the team I'm supposed to read it, I might struggle with it.
Anyway, I know some people likes to plan in advance. So, we'll have a planning spreadsheet in case you want to "claim" a specific task.
I'm still working on my stupid deadline at work - basically the price for procrastinating all day - so, the quick rules recap, and some other fun stuff I was planning on doing will have to wait till tomorrow, I should know the powers that be would be too excited to wait for the weekend, but I was hoping they would...
Oh well... we wouldn't like it other way.
The powers that be would like it noted that you didn't have to open the thread until tomorrow... Opening today was entirely your choice

True... but how could I resist?!?!?
We have mischief to make..... I mean problems to fix.... bigger problems to cause...
That's not use.

I love having some new Tower Team players as well as returning- so glad we can share the fun!

Everybody take notice! Suzanne called me wise."
She doesn't know you yet. ;)
Welcome to all the Tower Teams newbies. This Tower Teams thing is amazing. I met Sonia way back during the very first Tower Teams, and we've gotten very close. As in like almost daily chats, personal life details, etc. And a few of the others I've become friends with as well. Sammy and Claire come to mind off of this team (yay for being matched up with former teammates/friends as well!).
It's a lot of fun. You might be a little fuzzy for a few days while you learn, but it'll all click fast. The rules always seem like a lot and then you get into them and bam, easy peasy.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR SHENANIGANS!

I suppose I'd best do an introduction too. I'm a Scot who ended up in Leeds, England, via the Netherlands. Desperate to leave here and go literally anywhere else, but my youngest is about to start a 5-year course at Leeds uni, so I guess we're staying a while longer!
I read pretty much anything that isn't nailed down (and even if it is, I'll read that too if I can get to it!), though I'm not very big on chick lit/romance/books that are basically just women whining about how depressed they are/most of the books featured in Oprah's book club. But even so, I'll try one from time to time, because I'm always hoping the next one is what will convert me, lol. I'm also slowly making my way through Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, though I make sure to spread them out a little, or they start blending together!
As already established, I am very much a Discworld fan. I've read them all (except the last one! saving that for the end of my hardback re-read...), most of them more than twice.
My introduction to Discworld was when I was about 5 months pregnant with my first. my husband started reading out loud "to my bump" every evening. He read the first few Discworld novels, followed by the The Stainless Steel Rat series. that my daughter turned out relatively sane and with only mild larcenous tendencies is probably a minor miracle.

You need to wait for the planning spreadsheet... and that Sammy put her (already) imagined books there. Because I'm pretty sure her bookshelves at home are full of post-its and sticky notes of possibilities. Maybe even color coded

Bwaahaahaa! Actually, I have a stock of notepad pages on my desk with possibilities on. They're all white. Now I feel I need to re-do them in colour :D
For those of you that don't know me yet, I'm a notorious planner. I look at a challenge and plan my books for maximum point factors. I never used to be all that competitive, but the last TT changed that rather drastically, lol!

Hi Emeli, welcome to team Rincewind!

Once you have your special shelf for the challenge created just post it here so Sammy and I can check books.
The challenge starts in two weeks. It seems like forever, but, it's a good excuse to finish all unfinished books, since we can only use books that we start reading when the countdown reaches zero.

I don't know if you noticed, but somehow you and I are two of the three higher readers on the team.
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!
I blame Jenny and Judith.

to be fair, I upped my total books because there is no point incentive to read nothing but 1000+ pagers this time (thank A'Tuin!), so I can throw in some shorter ones without feeling guilty, lol.

Just a curiosity, I never write wizard well the first time. My brain decided a long time ago that the correct spelling was wizzard, and no amount of training worked so far.
Apparently, I was destined to be Rincewind.
I wonder if any of my streaming services has the movie.
*runs for cover*
Just to help me with picturing the world and want to read the books.

Ahahahahahaahah
I was a bit confused by that.
Okay, I'm wiped, so I'm logging off for the night.
Don't forget to fix little problems by creating disasters!

My shelf for this challenge is 1-nbrc-tt8

i've read some of the discworld books. i was one of those people who started with the first book and disliked it so much that it took me years to try another series because i was so confused as to why everyone liked them so much, but now i've read the death series and the tiffany aching series which were much better fits from me. i was planning on reading witches next so i'm glad that's one of the BOMs and i might try the city watch BOM as well although we'll see how i'm feeling.
i haven't really looked at all the specific rules for this iteration yet but i'm glad that page count apparently isn't a factor, i really hate reading long book and tower teams always makes me feel so guilty about it lol. i mostly read sff/horror but really i'm just always looking for something new because i feel like i read so much so that a lot of things get repetitive and i'm open to most genres except romance.

Sammy, I’m hoping that the Tower Teams can get my reading back to Team Trouble and My Restaurant Rocks levels.... or even better, 2017 and before levels where I read way more than Sónia. *wink* the last few years have kicked my behind and my reading mojo has suffered for it.
