Book Synopsis:
Lily Yu and Rule Turner’s engagement announcement is stirring up ugly passions in the Humans First camp. There’s hate mail. Death threats. Lily’s car is vandalized. But professionally, things are going smoothly...until a lupus in Tennessee goes on a killing spree.

Then Rule's brother, Benedict, catches a lovely intruder--twice. The first time she's sneaking around the home of the leader of Humans First. The second time, she sneaks into Nokolai Clanhome with a mysterious potion.

It may not be possible to deal with the rapidly escalating situation the way Lily always has: through the law. Especially when she’s pulled off the case due to an alleged conflict of interest. Lily’s loyalties will be stretched to the breaking point when she discovers that the deaths in Tennessee were only the opening skirmish in an all-out war.

(view spoiler)[I'd forgotten benedict had a chosen that died, so bonding and being given a new chosen must be a surprise. It be nice to hopefully get to know him a bit more in this one.

Isen was so confident he could remove the two Leidolf wolves from the Nokolai clan. Must be reason why he couldn't

LOL @ Toby in Chapter 2! Such a "smart" kid line of thought. I'm on Chapter 4 and so far it looks promising.

I'm liking Arjenie. I was a bit (view spoiler)[suprised that she is with the FBI. I was not expecting that. I liked her negotiation with Isen. (hide spoiler)]

I'm only in a couple chapters, but (view spoiler)[Toby's reaction to Lily not wanting to do Oprah is hilarious. Likewise, Lily's indignation when she finds out she's been trapped into appearing on the show is also hilarious. (hide spoiler)]

I've just gotten to the scene on the plane. I hate to admit it, but I'm really becoming annoyed with Lily's inquisitive nature and her need to rationally understand everything. This is especially annoying to me because she's mated to a Lupi and has been for some time AND has the grandmother that she does and she still has a really difficult time accepting that Rule just knows some things. That it can't necessarily be explained, but he knows. Her constant skepticism is grating. (hide spoiler)]

I'm finding that the book reads a lot like an instruction manual in places. I guess that's what I get for complaining that the last book was confusing and jumped around with little clarification. At least I understand what's happening, but sometimes I find myself wishing the plot would get moving. Other than that, I like where this is going. Arjenia is an interesting character, too.

Up to chapter 30: (view spoiler)[Poor LeBron. I'm curious to find out who was behind the shooting and what he/she did to the water supply. I'm thinking it's all connected to this Friar guy, but what is he holding Dya for?

I'm sure hoping Benedict pulls his head out of his butt before he does something really stupid. Tell Arjenia about the mate bond already! Sheesh! (hide spoiler)]

I'm having a hard time sitting and reading this one. I think a lot of it is what you mentioned, Becky.

Glad it's not just me, Katie. This is like reading homework all over again. I'm hoping the last bit picks up. It started out good, but now I want something to happen! Maybe she's setting up things for the next several books?

We can only hope.

I thought the ending was better that the rest. These books really could be excellent, but there is just something about each book that changes that

I agree, Danielle. The books are so inconsistent. The spark that hooked me in Mortal Danger has been absent for quite awhile. I'll keep going with the series because I love these characters, but I hope that the writing improves. Blood Challenge took forever to read and was so bogged down with explanatory "discussion" that it didn't hold my attention. It was a chore to finish.

I did like the ending. It feels like this was a first in series book, setting things up for the big confrontation with her. (view spoiler)[Loved the last line of the book! Females are supposed to be born human, but Cynna and Cullen's baby is Lupi. Pretty cool. I'm also wondering if Lily's taking of the mantel will give her the ability to shift. (hide spoiler)]

There are so many possibilities and the concept is super intelligent. I really like that, I just wish the author would find that spark again.

I'm still plugging away at this one. Hopefully I'll finish it up soon.

I plan to stick with the series. I'm the eternal optimist. If there is even the slightest chance the author knocks another one out of the park, I don't want to miss it. Hehe!

I'm enjoying Arjenie...it's about the only thing I'm enjoying right now. It's frustrating because, as you said Danielle, it has the potential to be SO much more. I'm moving faster through the book now, so that's good. :)

I really liked Arjenie

Arjenie is a real hoot! She's perfect for Sebastian. I like that she has plenty of self-confidence and doesn't even let the Rho intimidate her.

Finished! Well, it definitely got better at the end. I was thinking I'd probably stop reading this series after this book, but once I read that ending I changed my mind. I've gotta find out what happens next.
