Heather (aavynlee) | 2 comments Hi! :)

I've just joined the group and am in need of some book recommendations if anyone may have some ideas, as I'm hitting a wall trying to find some that match my current specific book craving.

I'm looking specifically for books/series about ghosts, hauntings, ghost hunters, clairvoyants, and others closely related. Now here is where my 'criteria' is causing me to hit a wall.

1. I am only interested in first person from a female point of view. Third person from secondary characters is fine though, as long as the main character is female and written in first.
2. I do quite like a slow burn romance subplot. I get turned off a book very quickly that has insta-love or excessive amounts of sex.
3. Interested in typical haunted houses/asylums, clairvoyant detectives or clairvoyants helping solve murders (love a good brutal serial killer series), ghost hunters, etc.
4. I don't want anything that has other urban fantasy/paranormal aspects (no vampires, werewolves, fae, witches, magic, etc).
5. I have come across many terrible YA or New Adult books, but also some really good hidden gems. I'm not opposed to either of these as long as they land more on the mature side of these. That being said, I do prefer books geared for adults.

Now if anyone who reads this hasn't run away saying "screw this woman and all her specifications".... I say thank you! <3 I thought I might try to add a few examples of past ones I've read that fit what I'm craving.

The Restorer Amanda Stevens (Graveyard Queen Series)
Donn's Hill Caryn Larrinaga (The Soul Searchers Mysteries)
The Haunting of Winchester Mansion Alexandria Clarke (and her style of ghost stories)

Here is a couple that are not written in first person pov, that I read back in the day before my brain decided it will only get into first person. So anything like these, but in first person female, would be incredible if they exist!

Stealing Shadows Kay Hooper (Special Crimes Unit Series)
The Last Victim Karen Robards (Dr. Charlotte Stone Series)

Thanks so much for any replies this post may get. I will appreciate recommendations more than you can know! :)

Oleander | 45 comments I think the Ghost Roads series might suit you. First is Sparrow Hill Road. Sparrow Hill Road (Ghost Roads, #1) by Seanan McGuire . It is first person. The main character is a female ghost hitchhiker.

Oleander | 45 comments Meeting your crime criteria, I highly recommend the Kate Burkholder series. Sworn to Silence (Kate Burkholder, #1) by Linda Castillo It isn't first person but it is so well written that you won't mind.

Heather (aavynlee) | 2 comments Thank you Oleander! I will definitely look into Ghost Roads. I have devoured the Kate Burkholder series already, such a good one. It is first person though?

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Hi Aavyn - Welcome!! The first series that came to mind when I read ghosts, hauntings, slow burn was Karina Halle's Experiment in Terror series. I gobbled them up rather quickly years ago and believe they're all first person POV.

First book: Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle
She has a spin-off: Veiled (Ada Palomino, #1) by Karina Halle
