Hi guys! I totally understand that it may be difficult to obtain books for book club reads, which leads to my next question:

Does your local library provide ebooks?

If so, then we can discuss what books are available on our respective ebook platforms and choose books based on that (as well as our YA/new adult contemporary kpop theme).

My local library has ebooks on the CloudLibrary app as well as on Hoopla, so I am able to check out almost any book. I love these apps because it helps me save so much money because there are so many books I want to read but not enough money to buy all of them.

Also, if we do book club reads, we can have two different book club discussions a month. So when we go to vote on the book for the month, the two most popular books will be the ones featured for that month.

This is a general plan for how our book club reads could work:

We'll have two folders. One will be labeled BOTM#1 - Book Title - Month Year and the other will be BOTM#1 - Book Title - Month.
e.g. BOTM#1 - Somewhere Only We Know - June 2021
BOTM#2 - K-pop Confidential - June 2021

*BOTM stands for Book of the Month

In each respective folder, we can have discussions for each chapter of the book, as well as discussions about the ships in the book (if there are any) and any other topics members want to discuss. The reason we will have two book club reads is to maximize the number of participants and to allow people to join in the book club read whenever they want during the month. So if a member cannot obtain one of the books, hopefully the can participate in the other book club read. Also, if a member finishes one of the BOTMs early, they can start the next book and be part of both discussions. As a moderator of the group, I will be reading both books to make sure that there will at least be some discussion if very few people decide to participate.

We can also build playlists for the books that we decide to read, if you guys think that sounds fun.

If you guys have any other ideas, put them here! Also, if anything I said doesn't make sense, just let me know and I will do my best to clarify any misunderstandings!

Okay, thank you so much!! I'll see if I can do that!!!

Jimin'sRamenNoodles (Jinlo) (ilovekpop) | 2 comments I do have ebooks!! Also KindleUnlimited is good, and if not, ebooks are generally cheap online.

The only thing I suggest is that since Somewhere Only We Know has been out FOREVER, and me and my friends have read that ages ago!! Maybe we can try something newer instead such as:

XOXO by Axie Oh Bias by Lucy Gold

Okay, omg, I am SO SO SO sorry for not starting this BOTM in FOREVER. I thought Danielle was going to do it, but since she's not that active, I'll try and start it! I will change the BOTM's to the books you mentioned above, thank you!!

The only question I have is... how do I start a book club read... I think I know how, but I'm not sure so could you tell me how? I'm so inexperienced, I'm so sorry, I hope we'll be able to read at least one of the books you recommended!!

I have a few author friends who have written K-books too! Jennifer Tirrell and Jennie Bennett

I'd love to do a book club read but as I said (I'm Mesa, this is my other account) I don't know how to manage one so I'm sorry if it never happens! I hope it will though, I'll definitely see if it can happen! And we'll definitely read your book if we start one! ")

M.L. East (ml34st) | 3 comments Hi again, Mesa!
Yeah, I was thinking about it and it does seem like quite the huge organizational undertaking! I feel like a Discord server is a good way maybe? Then it'd be like, get everyone who's interested to join and once you have enough people, pick a book every month and hold weekly discussions in the chat/video/audio chat or something? I've only ever been in in-person book clubs, but I feel like virtual book clubs have so much potential these days with all the resources at our fingertips, and all the niche genres, etc 🤩

Those are great ideas! I wouldn't be able to do that though, sorry. If it was hosted by me, it would have to just be a Goodreads thing. Yeah, I think so too! By the way, call me Madeleine ")

M.L. East (ml34st) | 3 comments Nice to meet you, Madeleine ♡ I'm M.L.!

Got it! Honestly, I feel like the stuff you elucidated in your original post was like spot-on; it's just a matter of grabbing more people, posting about it to get everyone reading on time, and then having dope discussions! I feel like the hardest part is just like getting the word out 🤔 That and like people would have to have e-library access or a KU subscription or be willing to spend a little on ebooks? Honestly, if it were my book getting read and discussed by a bunch of people, I'd be willing to provide free copies in exchange for Goodreads reviews and a front-row seat to brutally honest discussion lol 😂🤩🍿

Yeah, all of that is true. Lol, I would do the same 😂
