Turns out Kenzie’s boyfriend was the leak on the FBI side. What do you think of her reaction, specifically her lashing out at Lucy? Will their relationship survive?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments First, I thought that making Kenzie's boyfriend the leak was a cheap way of not blaming any of our FBI characters. Maybe the author should have had Hans discover that the leaked information came from Kenzie's computer. They'd arrest her, but eventually figure out that her boyfriend was behind the leak.

As far as Kenzie lashing out at Lucy...she'd just shot her boyfriend and was upset. Lucy and Nate were at the hospital to question her and possibly Eric Butcher about the situation. I would expect her to lash out at people.

Robin, I thought it was just me who was let down about the identity of the leak. Maybe this would have been less anticlimactic if Butcher had a bigger presence in the story. This was disappointing as there was no way we could have guessed him on our own.

I was even more disappointed in Kenzie’s reaction to Lucy. It was a really cheap shot and it was obvious she’d discussed the issue with Barry and others. If not for Lucy, they would not have brought this crime family down or revealed Nicole’s duplicity. No one was blaming her for being duped by Butcher or not protecting her computer better. No, I’m not giving her a pass for lashing out. It was mean.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments Kenzie was upset and felt betrayed. I think her and Lucy will be able to get past it.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think Eric Butcher should have had more of a presence in the book. I was taking notes while I was reading and I wrote his name down when he was mentioned as Kenzie's boyfriend, but I don't remember him actually having a scene until Kenzie realizes what he's been up to. I'm wondering if the author changed her mind about who was the leak and wrote a couple of mentions of the boyfriend into the story at the last minute.

It was mean of Kenzie to lash out at Lucy, but I agree with Melissa that she and Lucy should be able to get past it.

I’m thinking you’re right about Butcher, Robin. I searched his name and he was only mentioned twice and only appeared once when Kenzie discovered what he’d done.

Melissa and Robin, I agree Kenzie and Lucy will repair their relationship but it will never be the same. What Kenzie said felt like something she sort of believed. That trust is broken.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments I think the boyfriend was a very convenient fall guy. Through Kenzie's computer, he had access to everything the FBI knew. We aren't invested in him as a character so I feel no real loss with him being the mole. I was very sad at the way Kenzie lashed out at Lucy. She seems to be the scapegoat for everything.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I immediately suspected him as I read the first mention of him; again, this was a disappointment for me. Our author once again seemed to take the easy way out, foreshadowing the boyfriend the way she did.

You know, Charlene, it was out of place for her to just mention Kenzie’s boyfriend when Kenzie got so little late time. It definitely stood out.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I didn't like the boyfriend as the mole scenario. It seems like the author was stuck and fell back on him because so many agents were killed or injured, she didn't have anyone else.

I didn't understand why Kenzie jumped on Lucy. Lucy didn't introduce her to Eric. I hope Lucy finds another friend.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Lucy is so alone in the San Antonio office that I sincerely hope that Kenzie realizes how awful she was to Lucy and tries to repair that relationship. Lucy could really use a friend.

I hope you're right Anita. It is tough to work in an environment where no one trust or likes you.
