Challenge

1. Isabel Allende's first book was about the trials and tribulations of three generations of a family.
Read a book about a family saga.

2. Isabel Allende's father was first cousin to Salvador Allende, President of Chile from 1970 to 1973. In 1973, Salvador Allende was overthrown in a military coup. Isabel Allende's family narrowly missed being assassinated and fled the country.
Read a book about a political upheaval OR read a book about someone who has to flee for their life.

3. While living in Chile, Isabel Allende had a job translating romance novels from English to Spanish. However, she was fired for making unauthorized changes to the dialogue of the heroines to make them sound more intelligent, as well as altering the Cinderella ending to allow the heroines to find more independence and do good in the world.
Read a book that is labeled Romance OR read a book with an strong, independent female main character.

4. Isabel Allende has been married three times.
