Laura Everyone welcome for Buddy read of Bridgertons Book #3.

Michelle | 3258 comments I'll be starting it tomorrow. I'm really pushing my current read which I'm not enjoying as I thought I would..

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I'll start tomorrow too. I had a reading weekend with my granddaughter. Now we are writing reviews.

Sounds like a plan. Last night I finished a book that I had no clue was a trilogy so I want to read this before book 2 because if I read book two that will lead to book 3 and then it will be catch ya Tues or wed lol.

Sounds good!

Laura Ok first chapter. The wicked witch of the west has nothing on this bitch. 🤬

Michelle | 3258 comments And don't forget the older daughter!!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments This is Cinderella revisited.

Laura I finished and wow I loved this as much as the last. Part one was so heartbreaking how Sophie was treated by all the witches of the house.
I think this is the first book I’ve read with a female being called a bastard. I think this is the first illegitimate daughter I’ve come across, maybe because I don’t read much historical.

Laura Sharon wrote: "This is Cinderella revisited."

I thought it was very well done.

Laura Michelle wrote: "And don't forget the older daughter!!"

Omg yes like mother like daughter.

Laura One thing not clear to me is(view spoiler)

Laura In the show it sure seemed to me that they were hinting that Benedict was gay. Either of you think that? I love Sophie so I hope I am wrong.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Laura wrote: "In the show it sure seemed to me that they were hinting that Benedict was gay. Either of you think that? I love Sophie so I hope I am wrong."

I didn't pick up on that but it wouldn't surprise me. I saw an interview with Shonda Rhimes. She mentioned she enjoyed mixing things up in her shows. She does a good job of it.

Michelle | 3258 comments Laura wrote: "In the show it sure seemed to me that they were hinting that Benedict was gay. Either of you think that? I love Sophie so I hope I am wrong."

I thought that in the show as well. (wonder if they will take that through to his season. In the show he never really came out as gay. Was just suggested)
The book he is straight with questionable friends.

Could be that when this was originally publish written MM wouldn't have done well

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I finished. I think this is the best so far.

Michelle | 3258 comments Both of you really didn't mess around!

Michelle | 3258 comments Laura wrote: "One thing not clear to me is[spoilers removed]"

I've been wl derinf that as well. I haven't read a that far yet but I was also wondering about the heir. Surely he would have thrown them out already. Or at least out of the London home after both girls made their debut.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Michelle wrote: "Both of you really didn't mess around!"

I'm working on campus this week and next instead of remotely. That gives me 10 to 12 hours of listening time, depending on how many times I'm interrupted during the day. I'll listen to almost a book a day.

When I'm working from home, my grandson comes over after school. He doesn't interrupt me, but I need to keep an ear open to make sure he isn't getting into anything. LOL

This is explained at the end. Kind of.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I liked the second epilogue for this one.

Glad you liked it. It just sucked you in right?. Benedict’s mom was just a force at the end. Benedict with her was awwww.
The second epilogue was awesome. I would have read a whole book about them.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 444 comments I read this one a few months ago and loved it. This whole series is so good.

I love Victoria Bridgerton. She knows how to deal with conniving women.

I would read a whole book too.

Michelle | 3258 comments Ladies I really love this one. Didn't care for the Viscount's book. This is almost more believable if that makes sense

Still behind. He's just left her at his mother's residence and his mother has questioned her. I just know she will work it all out. Because she recognized her. I wonder if she knew her father. I'm thinking he would have been around when she came out....

Laura Karen ♐ wrote: "I read this one a few months ago and loved it. This whole series is so good."

It sure is! I love how it doesn’t read like a typical historical.

I love the whole Cinderella thing. The mom is a saint. So understanding and accepting of everyone.
I can’t help it I keep thinking of the show not a fan of his casting.

Michelle | 3258 comments I have a querky observation.
This author likes Father's dying age 40 ish. And someone suddenly.
She also like the guys getting married at 30.
What fascinates me is that the eldest sister got married first and now she's having the rest marrying in order of age. I'd have thought Eloise might have been married already but shes is 20 years old already.

Anyone know who's next?

Michelle | 3258 comments You know Laura I actually love the actor that plays him. But only because I think he fits that character in the show. I never had his face in my head while read bout him. Colin and the mother was in my minds eyes and well as Eloise.

It's actually interesting who all pops in my head while reading and who I might use the voice but not the face.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Laura wrote: "I can’t help it I keep thinking of the show not a fan of his casting.."

This is why I like reading the book after a show. It wipes everything about the show out of my memory. I vaguely remember the actors who played the various siblings, but I'm not sure I remember who they played.

I remember Regé-Jean Page because he is so stunning. Phoebe Harriet Dynevor is on the cover of the book now so she pops in my head sometimes when I'm reading. Other than that, the rest are a blur.

I will watch season one again when we get close to season 2 releasing.

I rarely associate a book character with an actor unless they author says something like he looks like Mark Harmon (I watched NCIS last night) when he was younger or something like that.

Michelle | 3258 comments Sharon I usually don't. I don't know why I'm doing it with this.

I remember once listening to an In death audio with Susan Erickson. After I kept hearing Peabody and Trina with what she had assigned them. To this day I still have that voice of Trina. Not so much the others.

Just my opinion but can I be shallow and say he doesn't do it for me?😂

I'll be re-watching too . I missed a lot at first until I started watching alone so I could concentrate.

You are right the guys get married at 30 so they can play around for ten years then they marry 18-20 year olds. No play time for the girls. The balls don't even seem fun. Too much like work to snare a husband.

We like who we like. I for instance didn't like the guy who played Anthony. 😂 😂

The more I'm reading the more I think the girls really had no life of their own. Everything was decided by other. And. Usually the males in their life. The Bridgerton, for the most part being the exception.

Imagine all those balls you had to go to. Only certain dance you could do. Staying up and o. Your feet for hours, with ly polite conversation. The rules of society. Peer pressure of that era would also have been immense! Having worn a corset or two in my life, if made well I actually loved wearing them
so that would have been fine but the shirts and petticoat?! Nope. I remember how I had my ritual the one or two times I had those volumous skirts and petticoats on. Before getting dress make sure to go to the bathroom and don't drink anything but sips after that.

Is it weird that I would have wanted to be in the working class rather than the ton? More freedom if nothing else.

No the girls didn’t have a life. The girls went from their parents house to their husbands and then they started popping out the kids. Looks and money was everything, it seemed like. No one wanted to dance with the ugly girls geez.
Did the working class really have more freedom? Depends on the employer I guess and what job.

Michelle | 3258 comments Looks and station more like.. And even there you had to be careful never to marry down.

I suppose your right. But I was thinking more those who had their own business. Those not part fo the household.

The other thing I wondered was what made the Bridgertons wealthy. Anthony has the estates and all that brings in. But how is it that all the brothers can afford their own residences. And Colin can just go travel? Not only did Benedict have a London residence but a place in the country.

I wondered that too. I don’t see any of them working or having any set schedules. In just these two books I counted 5 residences.

Michelle | 3258 comments We wil probably never know.

I finally finished. I very much loved the second epilogue, môre than I did the others. Posy getting her HEA.
I would have loved if the mother somehow got run off to the colonies. But that's just me wanting her to have struggled a few years after how she treated Sophie for years. Both the mother and daughter.
Voilet Bridgerton. She is the best. She really shon in this book. What a stunning woman

In some ways the working class did have more freedom. They could travel without so many restrictions for one thing. Also, a father didn't think twice about leaving a business to his daughter. The aristocracy were afraid if their property was broken up among their sons, it would be devalued.

With families like the Bridgetons, trusts were set up so all sons could have property even if it wasn't the large plots of land like the eldest son,

Me too Michelle. It looks like she will pay as far as participating in major society functions. I don't think she has any friends so I don't think she will be invited to minor functions either. That is big for a woman like her.

Thank you Sharon. I'm glad I asked.

Michelle | 3258 comments So ladies next month we start, in my case and maybe Laura, the next boxset? 😂 😂

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I found this it is interesting Regency property ownership.

Yes that would be great. I very easily could fall further down the Bridgerton rabbit hole now but duty calls with all my challenge books to finish this month.

Must admit Anthony had me questioning if I wanted to continue and Benedict pulled me back in.
