Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments During my eight years reading and participating in Goodreads discussion groups, a number of topics have been initiated by authors concerned about the disappointing number of readers obtaining a copy of their work.

Do not allow your current disappointment to discourage you from pursuing your ultimate goal. I personally admire prolific writers; a talent I regretably do not possess. The more books you write and the more often they are promoted in literary websites and periodicals, greater are the chances that more readers will take note and possibly procure one.

The literary field is undoubtedly one of the most competitive. There are literally millions of published authors. Many will never achieve notoriety or commercial success; however, some have. There is no reason why you might not eventually become one of them. So, don't give up!

I look forward to a time when I can tell my acquaintances that I participated in on-line discussions with a certain writer before he/she became a bestselling author. I sincerely hope that you will be that author.

Todd Thorne | 7 comments Appreciate the thoughtful encouragement, Jim. With the barriers to getting published so low, it's all too easy for an author to feel like just a drop in an endless sea. Outreach and support such as yours is more important than ever. Thank you so much for that.

Benjamin Shaw (benjaminshaw) | 5 comments What a lovely sentiment, thank you Jim... on the whole, I find Goodreads to be an encouraging and thoroughly enjoyable environment to engage in - largely thanks to genuine people like yourself.

Howard Schlossberg | 4 comments When I started writing it was just for laughs, to see if I could complete the story in my head. Now, of course, after putting it out there I am repeatedly hitting "Refresh" on the sales dashboard. Thank you for the reminder that it's about the writing - although the selling can be nice, too.

Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments I must say that I did not anticipate the overwhelming positive and complementary responses to my post. Thank you. Believe me, I am not being humble. Humility is still a trait I am constantly striving to master.

The inspiration for the post actually came from a line in the birgraphy of a famous United Kingdom Prime Minister which I read long ago. Some of my best ideas have come from others.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."
Sir Winston Churchill (Politician) 1874 - 1965
