I like Reed too. There is a lot to learn about him in future books.

Morrisette is a fairly unusual police detective that's for sure.
The author, in my opinion, resorted to caricatures for these two. I hated how she crafted Sylvie, making her seem immature in her personal life, but overly tough at work, like she was having to prove herself, be more like the guys. That scene where she’s driving too fast, juggling a cigarette and a phone was a ridiculous way to portray her. It was always something diminishing.
With Reed, he was the hard boiled, rugged (used that descriptor repetitiously) and jaded detective. I particularly didn’t like his views on women in professional roles, as if they hadn’t earned the right.
I didn’t dislike them, just never warmed to either of them.

I'm hoping for some character development as the series progresses since he the focus.
