Char What are the last few books you read?

message 2: by ●tk● (new)

●tk● (thenonexistentchild) Well, I’ve just finished “ A Song for Summer” yesterday. It’s a book be Eva Ibbotson. She wrote this collection of groups for older readers. I’ve got all of them except “The Morning Gift”. I’m currently reading “The Secret Countess”. It’s also in the same direction. It’s about this duchess who have a governess, a little brother who adores her and ‘copies’ her, and a very ill mother . Her father died in war. She went to work as a maid. Nobody knew who she really is except the owner of the place she’s working at. That’s how far I’ve got.

●tk● (thenonexistentchild) Oh, and I’ve just finished Four Children and It by Jacqueline Wilson, my favorite number 1 author. If you’ve read Five Children and It by E. Nesbit, you’ll love to read this. Jacqueline Wilson loves reading that books when she’s small. Both the books have a Psammead, or a sand fairy, who grants them wishes. But they can only use the wish once and it will disappear by dawn, unless you add ‘forever’ to the wish.

Manybooks I have not read any of Eva Ibbotson’s more adult fiction, but I have enjoyed some of her middle grade novels like The Great Ghost Rescue, Journey to the River Sea and The Dragonfly Pool.

Much of my recent reading is based on group reads for the Children’s Literature Group, and at present we are doing a Beverly Cleary retrospective since she just died in March at the age of 104.

Am in the middle of the Ramona books at present and have also reread Cleary’s Young Love series.

●tk● (thenonexistentchild) I’ve read Journey to the River Sea. You should also read “Dial a Ghost”, it’s not scary a bit, it’s great. Don’t worry, it won’t give you the shivers. A 6 year old would say it’s great!

The Great Ghost Rescue is also not really scary and often pretty funny.
