Zaynab and I are starting this tomorrow - anyone else feel free to join. Sections are slightly shorter because Austen can be quite dense.

Section One: Chapters 1-9
Section Two: Chapters 10-18
Section Three: Chapters 19-24
Section Four: Chapters 25-29
Section Five: Chapters 30-33
Section Six: Chapters 34-38
Section Seven: Chapters 39-43
Section Eight: Chapters 44-end

I will admit: I read this back in Year 10 (BEFORE I was an Austen nerd) and really hated it. However, since then, I've become obsessed with Austen so I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more this time - especially since I love the 1995 film version!!

Okay, either way is fine! Completely up to you :)
It's not my favourite Austen - Emma has that spot - but it's definitely up there (or at least, the film version is haha)

finished s.1. i'm actually kind of confused as to what is going on, why does this Colonel fella sound like he's 40 and Marianne/Elinor -whoever it is- is like 20.

help

i'm actually really intrigued by the film. i want to watch it so I'll have to do that after I've finished le book

First of all, I would say watch the 1995 film before you read anymore, or ASAP, because it really makes it easier to understand (and the 1995 one is 👌🏻👌🏻)

What exactly are you confused about, and I can explain for you?

Yes, Colonel Brandon is 35 and Marianne is 16. It is very much gross, however, you do have to remember that such large age gaps were extremely common back in the early 19th century. Plus Brandon’s a sweetheart, and Marianne’s head over heels for Willoughby so 😉

i've gotten to like Willoughby more just because I haven't fully had a proper encounter with Brandon yet. loving Willoughby so far.
i'm getting a bit more of a better understanding of the book.
the age gap thing explains Osmond and Isabel as well so understandable. (apparently I can somehow link S+S back to Portrait... oops)
