As August approaches, it comes time for our first BOTM! I've previously sent out a poll on where our first book of the month should take place, and the winner was Asia.

Please comment below which book you want to be the August BOTM! The requirements for the BOTM are:
-It must take place in Asia
-It must be Historical Fiction
-It must be either Middle Grade or YA
-Comment the name of the book you recommend and the author's name
bellow

The five most recommended books will be added to another poll to decide which will be the BOTM!

Ava :) | 2 comments I’m not sure if you would want it to have fantasy, but these violent delights by Chloe Gong is good!

sephora ౨ৎ⸆⸉ (godblessthishotmess) I would recommend These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. It is technically categorized as fantasy, but it takes place in 1920s Shanghai and the location and time period is very prominent to the story

Mikala Grace Bucklin (mkbucklin) | 3 comments It’s a little bit more of a ‘classic’ type, but The Samurai’s Garden by Gail Tsukiyama is one I’ve always had on my list. Here’s a list description for it:

Set in the 1930’s

A 20-year-old Chinese painter named Stephen is sent to his family's summer home in a Japanese coastal village to recover from a bout with tuberculosis. Here he is cared for by Matsu, a reticent housekeeper and a master gardener. Over the course of a remarkable year, Stephen learns Matsu's secret and gains not only physical strength, but also profound spiritual insight.

Matsu is a samurai of the soul, a man devoted to doing good and finding beauty in a cruel and arbitrary world, and Stephen is a noble student, learning to appreciate Matsu's generous and nurturing way of life and to love Matsu's soulmate, gentle Sachi, a woman afflicted with leprosy

➳ The Archer ➳ So this book doesn't exactly take place in Asia but the history concerning it is in Asia so Is that counted? Anyway the book is Aru Shah and the End of Time (Pandava Quartet, #1) by Roshani Chokshi Aru Shah and the End of Time

Unfortunately, since this doesn't take place in Asia, it does not meet the guidelines of our BoTM. It sounds really good, though!
