Thunderhead (August 2021) Buddy Read Discussion - Jen K & Emily

I'm confused by the person that Tyger is with. I thought she was ended? So curious as to what he is training to do and frustrated that he doesn't bother to actually find out.
Greyson seems like a really good addition.

When I found out Rand was alive I actually gasped out loud - looking back, I seem to remember the high blade saying they never actually found her body, that they thought it was under some rubble but never looked? Hopefully that’ll be explained.
I have a feeling Tiger being trained has something to do with Rowan having Goddards ring.
Grayson is definitely a character I didn’t think we’d be spending so much time with. He seems to be essentially acting as a spy for the thunderhead. Learning more about how manipulative the thunderhead is, while also being benevolent, is very interesting.
I will try and catch up as much as I can with the schedule - I’m really enjoying it, just a real busy week

Impressive memory on Rand. I really couldn't remember how she could have survived. It does sound like an upcoming battle.
My fear is the Greyson will turn into a love triangle but I love understanding how Thunderhead maneuvers around the laws of interacting with Scythes.

Um, the ending of Chapter 28??!! Crazy!!! I do not know how Rowan is going to get out of his situation!

The twist totally shocked me - I thought tiger had had plastic surgery to look like Goddard, when I realised that it was Goddards head on tigers body I lost my shit.

So crazy!! I'm so frustrated on behalf of Thunderhead that so much is happening outside of their jurisdiction. I'm intrigued that Greyson went to the Tonists and wonder how that will play in.

I cannot believe Goddards plan was to destroy all the Grand Slayers and the island of Eudora - and that it actually worked. I nearly cried when Curie died, and I can't believe Rowan and Citra are 'dead' too.
The Thunderhead has been slowly losing its shit, and I cannot quite believe it made everyone unsavory to essentially cut off the whole world from its guidance. Thank god Greyson didn't become part of a love triangle, but I reckon he'll become a real important player in the next book as he's the only one who can talk to the Thunderhead. I reckon the Tonists will feature even more heavily in the plot in the last book too.
I cannot quite believe Shusterman decided to basically have the whole of civilisation collapse (Scythedom pretty much taken over by Goddard's ideals, Thunderhead cutting everyone off) at the end of this book. I'm so excited to see how he wraps it up (I wonder what Scythe Faraday finds on the Land of Nod) - when would you want to read the final book?

Goddard is so evil and I thought that the ruling was too good to be realistic but crazy that it never really left the room. I hope that Rand keeps subverting him. She knows.
So sad about Curie. Why didn't she stay with them? Faraday will be so heart broken. What will they find in Nod? Will it make Thunderhead feel better or worse? Will it be enough to take out Goddard?
So ready for the next book but also so over committed for August. :( It is a crazy month. I could do early September? Totally understand if you want to read earlier though.

Goddard is truly becoming just classically very evil. I was starting to worry he was becoming a bit of a Trump character (when he said about making the Scythedom great again) but he is slightly more nuanced than that. I loved the fleshing out of Rand's character - I'd love to see if her compassion comes more into play in the finale.
For Curie, I believe she saw it as her punishment for her gleaning of the final US politicians all those years ago. I'm glad she chose to glean herself and others around her - a real show of her compassion. I can't imagine going out like the Grand Slayer's did was very enjoyable.
I'm very intrigued about how Nod will play into the last book. I'm also stretched thin in August so happy to read in early September. I'll need to check in a week or so when I can get the audiobook, so I can confirm more exact dates then!

sorry to bust into this conversation haha :))

thank you so much! and yeah, i'll be sad as well :((

thank you! i'm super excited for the ending as well, it's been a crazy ride!
