The Color of Magic is Terry Pratchett's maiden voyage through the now-legendary land of Discworld. This is where it all begins -- with the tourist Twoflower and his wizard guide, Rincewind.

On a world supported on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown), a gleeful, explosive, wickedly eccentric expedition sets out. There's an avaricious but inept wizard, a naive tourist whose luggage moves on hundreds of dear little legs, dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course THE EDGE of the planet...

Chapter 1

(view spoiler)[ I think it took me a little, but I am so into the story now. Twoflower is really relatable to me living in a pretty small town. i get why he wants that adventure. Still not sure what to make of Rincewind other than he isn't too trustworthy, but he is pretty entertaining. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I really love Twoflower's enthusiasm, even if he is naive as to what is happening around him. Seems so strange something as mundane as insurance is in this story. So far, I really like Twoflowers but I would love to follow Death for a day. He actually seems kind of funny in a sarcastic way. (hide spoiler)]

I've just started reading and actually it's a re-read but I forgot a pretty large part of the book so feels like reading for the first time :D
I remember enjoying the book and now it also feels good. I like the world itself and the writing style.

The characters get much more distinct within a couple chapters. Much easier now.

This is my first time reading the book and I really like it. It's a really light-hearted fantasy and I haven't read many of those. It's refreshing.

Part 2
(view spoiler)[ It could just be because I am also reading The Hobbit right now, but that whole bit in the cave had something Tolkien-esque about it for me.
Anyway, I am liking Rincewind more as I read. Or maybe not liking as much as appreciating his character. He's still self-serving, but his dry humor is one of the best parts of the whole story for me, like the photo of the thumb being the story of his life. lol. Twoflower is still so innocent. He thinks the best of everyone, even Hrun. I love that they got him with selfies basically. lol (hide spoiler)]

@Quirks Right! He is so naive.

Part 3
(view spoiler)[ So far, part 3 has been my favorite by far. I loved the dragons and that was definitely not what I was expecting from Liessa when she was introduced. haha Good for Hrun. I was so happy for Twoflower when he created the dragon. He was travelling, looking for special things and all along he had The Power himself. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Omg that was such a fun story. I say a lot that I never know what is going to happen next in a book, but in this one, literally anything could have happened. Part 3 is still my favorite, but part 4 was good as well. I had heard of the world on the back of a turtle before, but the idea of exploring that possibility and learning more about the turtle itself is completely new. Love that in the end Rincewind had no choice but to face his fears and see what happens. Really excited for the next book. (hide spoiler)]

Part 3

Agreed! After several chapters all the names, characters, places feel very natural and funny.

It's a slow read for me so I'm currently at 44%. But here slow doesn't mean that I don't like the story, quite the opposite. I love it and want to enjoy every moment. The book literally makes me laugh out loud.

(view spoiler)[At this point I love the clumsiness and naivety of Twoflower ever more. I also love the new character Hrun (in my language this word is a funny one and means a piggy in English). But my favorite is Rincewind. Oh my how cute and adorable he is! All those moments with him dealing with all the hardships Twoflower created are so funny and so natural. Being unskilled dropout with the deadly spell in him takes the character up to the next level. And the writing style... so nice and so perfect for this type of the story. (hide spoiler)]

Part 1
(view spoiler)[So so fun. First I thought this would be hard to get into. But then I could with the flow and have had so much fun with this. I have laughed aloud. The thought that people should stay at their places and how that made them to send killers... brilliant! (hide spoiler)]
