Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments Trying to remember the name of a book a read awhile back. Was a historical romance in england i think. Cant remember much but i think the manipulative and evil wife of the hero tries to get her sister to either flirt with her husband or become the heroes mistress. She justifies this by telling her sister that the hero is about to divorce her and leave her. Can't remember if this is right but i think she may also tell her sister that the hero is divorcing her to marry his mistress and she is wanting her sister to get him away from his mistress which of course is lies. If i remember right the wife is just evil and knows the husband has had enough and is about to divorce her. Of course the sister and the hero end up together.

Were the sisters twins? What era- Georgian? Regency? Victorian?
Other? Was the action in a rural setting? Does the good sis know she was duped?

message 3: by Lyndol (new)

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments No I don't think they were twins. I think the evil lying sister was older. If I remember right the majority of the book takes place in London. At the first the younger good sister has no clue she is being duped. She thinks her sisters husband is a horrible cheating husband due to all the lies he evil sister has told her and she thinks she is just helping her "innocent" sister. As the book goes on towards the end she finds out that her sisters hubby is actually a good man and they fail in love.

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments And I'm thinking it was regency or close to regency.

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments I could be wrong about the twins part but for some odd reason I'm thinking the evil sister was older. It was a book suggested to me with the theme of evil female villains that want the hero of the book (my favorite theme). I wish I could find the thread where it was suggested but it was a few years ago When Amazon had threads and forums and is gone now.

Gee, it sounds interesting.

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments It was actually a great book and it is more than likely in my Kindle books but I literally have 1000s of them so good luck narrowing it down. I have so many HR romances with the evil woman theme lol. Of course the best of all time is lucinda brants salt bride and its sequel lol.

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments Oh and this might help the sisters didn't normally live together. The I presume younger sister came to London to help unknown to her, her evil lying scumbag of a sister lol.

Lyndol---

These sisters seem somehow familiar. But I can't think of title. I cleared my Amazon reviews for hubs (we share an email) but he never posted any reviews!

Let us think on your request. In the meanwhile, you may want to
post about the sisters' scenario on GR thread "Romance Novel Book Sleuth."

Take care.

Lyndol Burns Parrish (dixiebelle72) | 9 comments Definitely will do because this is driving me crazy trying to figure it out. I've spent so many hours googling keywords lol.

Sorry, I looked at my book reviews and cannot find this one.
If I find one close to the scenario you posted, or with similar
elements, I will forward the info to you.

Vivienne | 774 comments A Regency set in Bath.
Two young women, one the beauty, the other the *plain* friend.
Three men, all titled and wealthy in varying degrees. In Bath incognito, not using their titles and pretending to have limited income.
Beauty turns out to be mercenary (of course she does)
Plain friend finds out by accident that the highest titled and wealthiest one had hatched the whole plan to see whether his two friends could win the beauty on their own merits, w/o titles and income that would otherwise be the sole basis for her choice.

Is it an older book? Could it be by M.C.Beaton or Joan Smith or Barbara Metzger?

message 18: by Vivienne (new)

Vivienne | 774 comments HR-ML,
OLT,

Thanks. I think it could be an older one but I have looked at Metzger and Smith on my Contents and Devices and none of the titles that brings up is the one I'm looking for.

Some time ago I deleted permanently some of the books I absolutely loathed, and I have a horrible feeling that I forgot to take the "permanently delete" off when I deleted other books.

I have gone through all my Regencies one by one and haven't found it; the only result being that my Kindle gave way under the strain I put on it, and I thought I'd broken it beyond recovery. When I did get it functioning again it has changed and is nothing like the Kindle White I had before. It is so much harder to navigate and to go backwards and forwards within a book. I am having to bookmark so many pages that before I could just jump back to and then return to the page I was reading. Now I have to write down the page number or the location number, or I'd never get back.

I am determined to find that "blinking" book though if I have to go through every book on my Kindle. I will NOT be beaten!!

OLT | 2480 comments I've read so many Regency romances over the past three decades that they are all a jumble in my brain. Good luck to you. BTW, maybe this website could help you: http://hibiscus-sinensis.com/regency/...

It has a list of many oldies with synopses of their plots.

OLT---

Thanks for the link!

message 21: by Vivienne (new)

Vivienne | 774 comments OLT,

Thank you for the link, and for taking the trouble to look for me. I'll let you know if I find it.

I started going through all my books on 'Contents and Devices' but it is slow, and quite discouraging, however, I shall persevere.

It would be easier to find it if I'd reviewed it, but from memory, I didn't.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Vivienne,

I know how frustrating this is. I have a Regency I have never been able to find that I only remember a few scenes from.

I don't recall reading the book you are trying to remember, but I will put in a request to my brain and see if anything pops up in the next few days. Sometimes that works when all else fails.

message 23: by Vivienne (new)

Vivienne | 774 comments Roberta2,

Thank you. I did begin trawling through ALL the books in my Contents and Devices, but had to give up because of my wretched nausea and retching. I have been rereading old print books as looking at screens seems to be one of the triggers for retching. Not that that is saying much as so many things seem to be triggers, even a slight change of position! Ah, well, worse things happen at sea as the saying goes :)

I'm not pushing my luck though, and haven't looked at any emails or posts for a couple of days, apart from this one.

message 24: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments Dear Vivienne, I hope that nausea calms down for you. Unless pain is unbearable, I actually prefer it to nausea and retching, so here's hoping you feel better.
