I hope everyone is doing well. If you are joining us for our Fall selection, we are now at Chapter 17-18 for Once There Were Wolves.
Inti was reflecting when she accidently killed a wolf when she needed to use a dart to sedate the wolf, but the impact proved fatal to the wolf. She questioned the process of trying to save the wolves, only for mistakes to happen and meaning unintentional death for the wolves. Inti wasn't sure if human involvement was too much or too little.
Inti continued her work with tracking the wolves and their survival. It was disappointing and worrisome when they could no longer track their whereabouts. Inti remembered her dad's thoughts "all creatures know love" and Inti knew she had to continue to keep doing her best to protect them the best she could.
Inti is not sure what to think about Duncan anymore. She wonders if he had involvement in Stuart's death. More wolves continue to be threatened and die as packs fight with each other. Inti thinks about her mother who offers advice about not being so sensitive and to "toughen up" in order to get through difficult times. Inti understands her mother's words, but she cannot help but feel empathy for the wolves who need her help and her need to protect her sister.
What do you think so far of the book? Can Inti handle the emotional ups and downs of her personal life and work? The lingering pressure of Stuart's death is still present. Can Inti continue to handle what she has done to keep him hidden? Inti has not told Duncan her news. How will he handle it? Wolves continue to die, what will happen to the remaining?
