A place to discuss A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher, no spoilers, please.

I've put this one on hold! I'm so excited to read it. I always enjoy books by T. Kingfisher.

Annette | 271 comments I will get to this one later in the month or early December. My “Currently Reading” category is rather full.

It will probably be a similar time frame for me. It had a hold list with the library.

Much depends on the other reader there. . .

My audiobook hold came through earlier than I expected! I was able to listen to several hours of it today at work and I'm really enjoying it. I thought it was middle grade but it reads a bit older than a typical middle grade to me. Not a critique! Just an observation. I won't have a chance to listen anymore over the weekend but I should finish early next week.

Susan Chapek | 308 comments Got my paperback today, and fell in deepest like by page 2, and in love by the end of the chapter.

Margaret said "it reads a bit older than a typical middle grade to me." Since I didn't know this author, I peeked at the back matter right away and learned that she had intended it to be sold under her MG author name, but editors felt it was too dark for MG (though the main character and the voice seemed MG). Anyway, the author eventually decided to publish it under her adult fantasy pseudonym.

I'm glad we chose this book, as I ought to have discovered this author much sooner.

And actually, by about the middle of the book she sounded more middle grade to me, ha!

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I finished it today and have thoughts in the spoiler thread, but they're extremely spoiler-y so don't read them until you're absolutely done. :)

Annette | 271 comments I just started listening — it’s cute. That may not be how the author would like to have it described but it’s meant to be a compliment.

I think a lot of middle grade is cute!

It just won a Hugo award for best YA: http://www.thehugoawards.org/hugo-his...

Gem I finished today and really enjoyed this book.
