Duration: January 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022

It’s time to take control of your reading and rearrange your virtual bookshelves!

This yearly challenge (a variation of the 2019 Pinspiration challenge by Regina) will help you organize your reading plans around "thematic bookshelves.” Although you’re given the general concept of each of the 20 shelves, it’s up to you to fine-tune your chosen shelves to accommodate your reading tastes and plans.

You may repeat a shelf theme, if you wish, but your challenge should consist of at least two different themes, with two books minimum per shelf. Also note that you may count each book only once within this challenge, but feel free to apply that book to any of our other yearly, quarterly, and monthly challenges.

The 20 shelf themes are:
*An Author
*A Book Genre
*Book Length (under 200 or 500+ pages)
*Celebrations
*Diversity (in any of its forms)
*Friendship, Love, and Marriage
*A Feeling (joy, grief, love, adventurous, envy)
*Film & Theater
*A Fine Art (visual arts, music, plastic arts)
*Food & Beverage
*Heritage & Culture
*A Hobby or Pastime
*A Listopia
*A Literary Award
*Memoirs, Auto-Biographies, and Biographies
*Nature and the Environment
*A Place (location, city, suburbs, countryside, nation)
*Science & Technology
*A Time (time of day, month, year, season, past era, future)
*Travel

oshizu | 5762 comments How to Participate:

1. Post here telling the challenge leader that you'd like to join the challenge. You can choose your books for the challenge at the beginning or add them as you go. You can join this challenge at any time, as long as it's still active. If you don't state your challenge goal when signing up, you might temporarily be assigned a default goal of 6 books.

2. Whenever you finish a book for this challenge, post a new comment here and let the challenge leader know so they can update your progress. Please be sure to post the number of books you have completed and the number of your original (sign-up) message every time you post an update.
The challenge leader is not able to keep track of your total number of books for you because of the number of participants in the challenge. The number of the original post is used to identify you, as there can be many members with the same name. The challenge leader will not look at this post to track your progress.

Example:
Message 32 updated! 2/25 books read!

For more information about how challenges work, check out this thread or ask your challenge leader.

P.S. Please do not delete posts! It makes updating very confusing for the Moderators and other challenge participants! If you decide to leave the challenge, please just let us know. You can edit your original post to say {redacted}. Thank you!

= = =

Please join us and bend the themes to your 2022 reading plans. Let’s make like oysters and be shelfish!

As of 18 July, you'll find the most up-to-date participation rosters in the post below (msg #3)

Robynne Lozier | 344 comments I'll sign up as well. I can mesh this with the Hindsight challenge.

I will do 60 books in total - and 16 shelves.

DONE - 6/60

Update - 28 Nov 2022 - I never completed this list. Mostly because the 60 books was too overwhelming. If I do this again in 2023, I need to cut down on the number of shelves and the number of books - maybe less than 10 shelves and not more than 20 books. Or perhaps just 5 shelves and 20 books total spread over 5 shelves. That seems to be more doable to me. Cannot wait for this challenge to drop in December 2022.
