I just discovered the series this year and bought Volume 1 last week. Very excited!

Susan (ofearna) | 29 comments I'm guessing zombies don't count... would Joe Hill's Locke & Key books qualify, ya think?

BTW, Jonathan Maberry has a ghost story audible-only called
"Lullabye"

a story that isn't here, on Goodreads was #1 "To Summon a Fiend-Spirit" by Nina Kiriki Hoffman another great ghost story by her is Ghost Hedgehog, which I read in April, so it won't be here... also Surreal Estate and Haunted Humans

Me too! Her books are a very good choice for this challenge.

Craven Manor was great! Darcy is awesome!

Craven Manor by Darcy Coates

message 16: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments I'm in as well, just not sure how many I'll get to, starting out with at least 3, I have plenty that I can choose from.

message 17: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebelle440) | 4 comments Recently finished “Bag of Bones” by Stephen King- it was an excellent ghost story. Some horribly sad parts in it toward the end, but one of the main elements to a good ghost story is tragedy, isn’t it?

Michael J. (michaeljclarke) | 634 comments Good luck wishes for all the participants. Things get busy this time of year so I’m only setting a goal of 2 books. Don’t know what titles yet. Hoping to find something juicy in my collection.
I made it, with only one day before deadline left!
1. DEAD WOMAN SCORNED by Michael Clark (December 26)
2. ALETHEIA by J.S. Breukelaar (January 14)

This challenge will give us all an excuse to get away from everyone and find a quiet spot so we can read. :)

That's sounds perfect to me!!

message 21: by Damini (new)

Damini | 132 comments I'll be going for a re-read of one of my favourite ghost story collections, The Black Veil & Other Tales of Supernatural Sleuths, compiled and edited by Mark Valentine. The stories are super creepy, and just perfect for winters!

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments I'm down for the challenge! I find it particularly hard to find a good ghost story and I don't know why. Perhaps I'm expecting too much out of a ghost story? I don't know, but either way I will pick one!

message 23: by Joe (new)

Joe Orozco (scribblingjoe) | 11 comments I'm working my way through some Michael McDowell. Great stuff for this challenge.

i set my goal low, for 3. I'm counting Come With Me as one of them. it so counts if anyone is reading it. maybe not your normal ghost but i think it counts.

OOH--good one, I didn't think of that! It fits perfectly.

message 28: by Ruth (last edited Jan 05, 2022 02:55PM) (new)

Ruth | 104 comments I think a reasonable goal for December is 3 ghost stories for me!

1. Come with Me by Ronald Malfi (finished 12/31/21)
2. The Ghost of Shapley Hall by Amy Cross
3. Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw
4. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

message 29: by Anja (new)

Anja Henriksen | 147 comments think i chose 7, when i used browser, can't see it now, but it might be high as I'm not as much in a ghost mood as I thought lol. we'll see. I just started Come With Me, but I'm not sure if it is a ghost story, time will show :D

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 217 comments If I read stories from an anthology, does each story count, or can I only count books?

message 35: by Alan (new)

Alan | 7611 comments Mod
The way Goodreads sets up the challenges only a book counts through the official, unless you find separate listings for the individual stories and want to enter them that way. Not sure if you can list the book itself multiple times in the challenge or not.
However, if you want to just list the stories read individually on a post in this thread that's entirely up to you.

I think that might have been my favorite of her haunted house work (so far anyways)!

Another favorite author of mine! Which ones are you reading? I need some title help for this challenge. Lol. My brain is blank for any good ghost titles.... :o

message 38: by Anne (last edited Dec 28, 2021 05:29AM) (new)

Anne | 76 comments #1. The Invited, Jennifer McMahon - this was a good ghost story if anyone needs ideas!

#2. Hotel Chelsea (World’s Scariest Places), Jeremy Bates - sadly this turned out not to be a ghost story as it implied. Weird and dumb twist near the end. Boo! ☹️

#3. Don’t Look Back, Ben Cheetham - this was a good ghost story and I think it left the door open for more. I believe there’s a second book about the house in this one.

#4. Ghostland, Duncan Ralston - hmmm I enjoyed this one but somehow the writing didn’t completely flow for me and it felt like it took longer than usual to read it. Lots of ghosts, some vicious kills until it kind of got blasé. 1st in a series but I don’t think I’ll continue.

I'm working my way through The Valancourt Book of Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories Volume Three by Simon Stern . So far most of the stories have been great. I especially liked Sir Hugo's Prayer for the humor.

I'm reading the first book in this series. It's so fun.

Also just finished When the Reckoning Comes by LaTanya McQueen, which I have very mixed feelings about, curious to know if others have read it. Lots of ghosts and some real too-true-to-life horror by the end.
When the Reckoning Comes by LaTanya McQueen

message 47: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Griffin | 97 comments So far I’ve read The Willows which was good, Secret Worship which was very good, and Ancient Sorceries which I didn’t enjoy. All of these are by Algernon Blackwood.

message 48: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Woot! Woot! Love some Blackwood!

message 49: by Damini (new)

Damini | 132 comments Stuff I've read so far -

The Canterville Ghost - Oscar Wilde
After-Supper Ghost Stories, The Skeleton - Jerome K Jerome
The Doll's Ghost - F. Marion Crawford
All Hallows Eve - Michael Penning (this one's a novel)

Canterville is obviously an all time classic, but "The Doll's Ghost" has been my favourite so far, it was particularly chilly.
