I've sorted out my theme. 16 new series that are on my book shelves that have been awaiting my start, finally. 8 Dusty ones that I've had the longest (mainly because they seem to be largish books and in late December I'll add the 8 newest series on my bookshelves..

The Dusty 8

1. The Complaints by Ian Rankin (Malcolm Fox #1) I've had since May 25, 2021. I've been enjoying the Rebus series for a long while. Looking forward to starting this series finally. 452 pages, started 1 Jan, finished 25 Jan, 4 stars 2022
2. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (Kingkiller #1) Jun 07, 2015. I got this as a gift from my daughter. 722 pages, started 10 Feb, finished 15 Apr, 4 stars
3. Golden Buddha by Clive Cussler (Oregon Files #1) Jul 11, 2015. I've started 3 of Cussler's series so far. Let's see what this one is like. 416 pages, started 1 Apr, finished 8 May, 3.0 stars
4. The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott (Raj Quartet #1) 22 Aug, 2015. I've seen the movie a couple of times. Finally will try the book.
5. The Skull Mantra by Eliot Pattison (Inspector Shan #1) 23 Jan 2016. I do like mystery series set in Asia. hoping to start this in 2023
6. Divergent by Veronica Roth (Divergent #1) 09 Mar 2016. I bought this around the time I was reading Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and other young adult series. For some reason, this one got left behind. 487 pages, started 1 Jun, finished 9 Jul, 3.5 stars
7. The Mark Of The Assassin by Daniel Silva (Michael Osbourne #1) 30 Apr 2016. I've got nothing other than I enjoy the spy genre and this one looked interesting. 418 pages, started 14 May, finished 12 Jun, 4.0 stars
8. Red Rising by Pierce Brown (Red Rising #1) 19 Jul 2016. I think I was attracted by the covers first and then the story sounded interesting. 382 (read 125pages) pages, started 13 Sep, DNF, NR

The Shiny Newby 8 on my Shelf (as of 04 Dec 2021... subject to change if I get any more)

9. The Power-House by John Buchan (Leithen #1) 30 Oct 2021. I enjoyed Buchan's Richard Hannay adventure series and some of his standalones. Looking forward to delving more into his work. 108 pages, started 25 Jan, finished 28 Jan, 4 stars
10. Dawn by Octavia E. Butler (Xenogenesis #1) 30 Oct 2021. I've heard great things about Butler's writing. Looking forward to this. 283 pages, started 28 Jan, finished 10 Feb, 4 stars
11. A Terrible Fall of Angels by Laurell K. Hamilton (Zaniel Rafferty #1) 03 Nov 2021. Back in the day I was hooked on Hamilton's Anita Blake books and got my daughter hooked as well (interesting factoid, to me anyway, her PhD thesis is based on the themes in the books). I also tried Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series, didn't enjoy that as much. But I'm looking forward to trying this new series. My daughter gave it to me for my birthday. 383 pages, started 9 Jul, finished 4 Aug, 3.5 stars
12. The Peripheral by William Gibson (Jackpot #1) 11 Nov 2021. I've liked pretty well everything I've read by Gibson, since I tried Neuromancer, with just a couple of exceptions. Looking forward to this. 488 pages, started 12 Jun, DNF, (completed 253 pages) NR
13. Murther and Walking Spirits by Robertson Davies (Toronto Trilogy #1).. Ed Note - Davies died after only completing 2, so now more accurately Toronto Duet) 17 Nov 21. In my university years and shortly thereafter I read his Deptford Trilogy, a magical series. More recently I have enjoyed his Cornish trilogy. He's such an intelligent story teller.
14. The Detective's Daughter by Lesley Thomson (Detective's Daughter #1) (18 Nov 21). I think I came across this when I was checking out titles in the back of another book. It sounded interesting. 472 pages, started 26 Sep, finished 1 Dec, 4.5 stars
15.Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows Duology #1). (15 Dec 21) I saw this at my local today and the cover looked neat and the write - up sounded interesting. 465 pages, started 15 Apr, finished 31 May, 5.0
16. A Killing in Comics by Max Allan Collins (Jack and Maggie Starr #1) 259 pages, started 8 May, finished 14 May, 4.0 stars

So there you go, my main 2022 challenge. Overall I think I'll try to complete 120 books in 2022. Most of those will come from my other challenges.

Completed: 13

Saar - I've been intimidated by its size but I've got to finally try it.

Lea (leaspot) | 3629 comments I've read two on your list Bill, that might be a record! I enjoyed both Divergent and Red Rising. I need to get back to the Red Rising series, I thought it was just a trilogy, but I guess there will be three more books I should get back to at some point. Red Rising is pretty dark and violent, so be prepared. :-)

Anita Blake is fantasy / paranormal... My daughter is still working on her thesis, hoping to finish this year. I'm not sure I understand her ideas, but basically how the monster (the different) are treated in society; themes like Aids (vampires), etc.

It is gritty and gets grittier with each book, Alissa. Difficult to read at times.. Just in case that bothers you.

I'll see, Yolanda. I've avoided school - type reading of any kind since I graduated from university.. lol.. But I may have to read this.
