Thank you Bev, doing my best - currently reading Russia by Martin Sixsmith - very interesting - and Beginning EJB in Java EE 8 (very technical ;-)). Both are around 600 pages so it's taking me some time but I will get to the top - fingers crossed!

Are you joining in the challenge this year?

Elinor | 9 comments Well, here we go... my ascent has officially started:

Russia: A 1000-Year Chronicle of the Wild East by Martin Sixsmith
I really enjoyed this. I learned a lot about russian history, felt it was well written and documented. Of course, being hopeless at history cannot fact check - so 5 stars for making history enjoyable :).

Happy reading!

I'm always going to be climbing...my mountain range never seems to shrink, no matter how many books I read from it. :-)

Same here. So fortunate to always have a backlog of books to pick from :).

Elinor | 9 comments Update since last time (complete list):

Russia: A 1000-Year Chronicle of the Wild East by Martin Sixsmith
I really enjoyed this. I learned a lot about russian history, felt it was well written and documented. Of course, being hopeless at history cannot fact check - so 5 stars for making history enjoyable :).

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
This was a 4-star read for me. It felt really well researched (even if the author does point out some errors in chronology) but felt quite bleak at the same time.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
Unusual, part-funny, part-tragic. I'm glad I read this one despite some scathing reviews. Sounds like you either love it or hate it.

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes
A lovable book for book lovers (tough it's really about so much more) - 4-star read for me, some of the characters are still with me today :).

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Solid read - 4 stars for me.

Wonder by RJ Palacio
Young Auggie has Treacher Collins syndrome and children can be both so cruel, and so full of potential. Enjoyed the read - made me think!

Queer City by Peter Ackroyd
This was interesting: partly quite amusing, partly too full of facts in my opinion.

The Whistler by John Grisham
A solid plot, though possibly to linear for an actualy suspenseful read. I found it engaging, but don't think it fits the suspense/mystery categories. I expect I'll be reading more by John Grisham.

Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman
This was not what I expected - I've been told I should have watched the film before reading the book, as the characters would have been more likeable/relatable from get go.

Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons
A classic of the times - which I found rather amusing.

The House in the Cerulean Sea
Not altogether sure about this one to be honest. I enjoyed reading it but it also baffled me, and I'm still getting my thoughts straight about it.

The Good Egg by Jory John
I liked the message of this children's book - one I'll make sure to share with my niece.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I really enjoyed this book - well, "enjoyed". It's raw. I felt it was good book, that beautifully portrays Afghanistan and how it has been torn through the decades.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
This was a difficult read. In a postapocalyptic world a man and his son, walk a difficult road to... we're not exactly sure why they're headed where they're headed, but they are quite determined. The descriptions are absolutely stunning, the writing is beautiful - but it truly is so sad, and grim, and bleak, that it made for a difficult read for me.

So that's 14 books towards Mt Blanc so far.

Still climbing...

Elinor | 9 comments Hi everyone and season's greetings, and all the best for the coming year!

I only read another two books that had been on my TBR since the previous year so I didn't make it this year.

Thank you for hosting the climbs :-).
