I've started reading a romantic suspense novel: Silver Creek Bodyguard by Lindsay McKenna.

I haven't had a chance to do my year end summary this year. I usually do a mid year update, then it's easy to do my end of year, but I never got around to it this year. I hope to pull something together quickly tomorrow.

Hour of Need

I am starting Shuggie Bain for my real life book club and The Last House on the Street for review. I also picked up In Love & Pajamas from the library and I'm expecting it will be a quick and cute read.

However, I really feel like my stuff goes beyond the fantasy genre it looks like on the label. Forgive me if this isn't allowed on the thread but -- here they are: have a look! The second one (POWER'S PLAY) doesn't absolutely require you to have read the first (FOOL'S PROOF) so if you're the kind who likes to stick your fork in the middle of the pancake, feel free!
Fool's Proof Power's Play

Your so lucky. I have read all the other books in this series. Hopefully, I will get to read it this year.

The Last Whalers: Three Years in the Far Pacific with a Courageous Tribe and a Vanishing Way of Life --
It was a fascinating glimpse of an indigenous tribe whose future is on the precipice.

A woman survives a bad car crash and is desperately looking for a little girl, however, there are no signs of a little girl--she may not even exist according to the woman's husband who claims that she has gone through this delusion before. (which already seems sketchy boots to me)
I'm not very far in but am drawn right into it, I need to know what is going on with this possibly imaginary little girl that Nicole (the woman) is so desperate to find.

Have you seen the reading order according to JR Ward? Maybe check it out and see if you've missed a book or read something out of order. You can check it out here: https://jrward.com/black-dagger-broth...

I tried reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo years ago and couldn't get into it. I'm always so disappointed when I see this series because it looks like it would be so good and I feel like I'm missing out. I wonder if I just wasn't in the right mood for it at the time. I may have to try it again. Do you remember if it took you a bit to get into the first one or did it grab you right away?

The first book was a bit of a slog. Larsson wasn't a natural crime fiction writer; rather, his objective was to expose misogyny. The pacing was too slow and there were tons of names (3 people had the same first name!). This barely improved with the sequels as I've read all of them, even with the replacement author.
What made them memorable for me was Lisbeth Salander - a ball-busting, antisocial (autustic?), avenging hacker. Try watching the films first - there were 2 Swedish adaptations before Daniel Craig ever stepped into Blomquist's role.

Thanks for the suggestion. Lisbeth is the whole reason I want to read the books. She seems like an MC I could get behind and I love kickbutt women.
I considered watching the movies, but thought they'd be pretty dark and graphic, so wasn't sure I was up for them at the time. I'll have to look into them again.

I cant remember which version (probably the Swedish variation) but one of them should have come with a trigger warning for sexual assault. It was intense.

I'm still working through Crash & Burn, and really enjoying it. I have also picked up a few other books in hopes I'll be able to get a lot more reading done this year;
Crash & Burn
The Witches
Beautiful Scars: Steeltown Secrets, Mohawk Skywalkers and the Road Home
Batman: Harley and Ivy

My 3 star review of this Regency paranormal romance:
