Lea, thanks very much. Hope you guys like Homecoming. I put it on the list because I keep meaning to read it and now think I will. Same with The Man in Moscow. I have had it to read for 4 years. Decided on The Great Gatsby and also the new book The Chosen and the Beautiful since it’s a take on that book. See how I like it. Enjoy your year and Happy Reading

Ann, thanks for the recommendation for The Man in Moscow. I too, purchased The Beekeeper of Aleppo on sale. My room and house and car are full of books ‘On Sale’ that I had to have. Think that is a good thing until I have to organize them all. LOL. Enjoy your reading in 2022.

Kristine, I'm exactly the same, having books that I have been meaning to read for years. Fingers crossed that we all enjoy Homegoing. I didn't realize that The Chosen and the Beautiful is a take on The Great Gatsby - I love that you are reading both this year. I love to read classics and remakes of classic books too.

Have you decided what you will try to read first?

Both The Paper Palace and The Push sound really good, I'll be eager to see what you think.

We should definitely compare notes on Homegoing, I'm not sure when we will get to it, but I hope we will finish it this year. There are so many books I want to tackle this year.

Vicki, thanks so much for your feedback. Hope I like them, too. Check in when I r ad them. Just started The Paper Palace, seems good, but doubt I’ll finish this month. Try to read some other in February. Really like this group, glad you are part of it. 😊

Kristine | 405 comments Well, I finally got started on this Challenge. I read Violeta by Isabel Allende and just finished The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller . I really loved both books and that each is about family.

Kristine | 405 comments Alissa wrote: "I have been eyeballing Paper Palace, sounds good!"
Alissa, it is a complex book about family. I really loved it, but to let you know there are many incidents or rape and sexual abuse. It is not a light read, but I found it a compelling one.

message 24: by Kristine (last edited Apr 02, 2022 04:55AM) (new)

Kristine | 405 comments 4/2: Finished Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen last month. I really like Jonathan Franzen. This was a very complex books, and dealt with family, religion, rebellion, and growing up. 4 individual children growing up in the early 70’s and how each responds to their family with a Reverend Father, His Wife who does much work for him and also raises the children, and the outside with so much change occurring with the Vietnam War still going on. Excellent Writer. Love that this is the First book of a Trilogy. It will be really Interesting to see How the Kids do at a later time.

message 25: by Kristine (last edited May 07, 2022 02:42AM) (new)

Kristine | 405 comments The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo , was such a different type of book and very creative. Nghi Vo is a talented writer, so naturally I put in for her new book Siren Queen by Nghi Vo , due for review on 5/10. Why, do I do this? Clearly, I don’t value sleeping.

I want to try and get in The Push by Ashley Audrain , A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles The Education of an Idealist A Memoir by Samantha Power and The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri since they also fit in with several other challenges going on.

Wish me luck.

Kristine | 405 comments Well, it’s 6/12 and just got 1 of my books read. The Push by Ashley Audrain . I hate getting behind, and really have The Beekeeper of Aleppo on my Reading Now List. Hope I fit that in this month, so am on track. That would leave me 6 books in 6 months. 🤞 I get some read. Do love this challenge.

Kristine | 405 comments I finally got to read The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri , by Christy Lefteri. I found the book exceptional. It is such a beautifully written book with strong characters who must leave Aleppo and the couple become refugees. You really feel for them, both heartbreaking and uplifting.
