Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments I'm not making any grandiose goals this year. Too many family health problems going on so it's hard to plan. So, my goal is to focus on reading/listening to books I already own. Some are rereads because I bought the book/audiobook after I had already read/listened to it free from another source. Paid for it, gotta read it again, right?

Thanks! Mom's been a wreck - first breaking her foot last August (still recovering) and recently getting pneumonia. She's doing good though - she might need another round of antibiotics, but she's way, way better than she was. Bro, who is disabled, is no worse, but it takes 2 people to take care of him ordinarily so it's tough.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Good to hear that your mom is on the mend.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Ok, so my update of all things book related. Still not up to 2,000 pages a month but almost there this month. Listened to 4 books so far in the Undying Mercenaries by BV Larson which is military scifi pulp fiction. Really enjoying them and picked up the two books I didn't have at the current fabulous sale.

My attempt to keep restraint on my buying came to an end this week with the fabulous Audible sale. 70+ titles although at least 15 are novellas. It's hard to feel guilt but it is killing my $400 annual budget for audiobooks. Pretty much limits me to using my last 2 free credits and quitting my membership for awhile. Again. I just rejoined a week and a half before this sale with a tempting 'come back to us' offer!

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Definitely did random reading for March. After finishing another Undying Mercenaries book, I listened to a children's book that was a favorite of mine as a kid, a new series of British cozies, listen to an audio of a book read previously (audio only just became available), a book I bought long ago on the recommendation of my late sister, book bought because I'd listened to her podcast and finally a new-to-me book in the Deadwood series.

Man with the Golden Torc by Simon Green was recommended by late sister and outstanding fantasy.

Life is getting more or less back to normal. Read or listened to over 2000 pages, so improvement! Right now, mostly working on cross stitching and downsizing. I don't use my Fire tablet much and discovered I can load cross stitch patterns on it and stitch from there. Yay!

Downsizing continues. Current focus is to empty and eliminate a bunch of particle board bookshelves. I already got rid of the easy stuff, so it's a bit harder to part with it. However, at least 2/3rd of what is in the main basement room has to go. Do I really need 12 blank books when I only use 2? LOL

Nyssa | 1569 comments 15!?! O.o

How are you, btw?

message 15: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Doing well Nyssa. Hope you are too! Yes, I'll be adding yet another kindle when the Father's day sale starts by stacking the offer I got due to owning a kindle keyboard. That means SOMETHING has to go. It will be hard to decide!

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments May was not a big reading/listening month. I was catching up with some TV since I pay for Netflix and 2 Brit Channels. Still, I usually manage a couple of hours a day and didn't do that this month. I did knock off one of my Classics though - The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens and narrated by his actor descendant, Gerald Dickens. I highly recommend this audiobook version. Back to series next month.

I'm glad you're doing well! :)

Good Luck w/ the Kindle Conundrum!

Some months are just that way. Mine was in March. I don't think I completed a single book, even though I read a few pages every day.

You'll get your reading groove back :)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments After a couple of months, I'm going back to Science Fiction this month (July). Starting on book 7 of Undying Mercenaries - Rogue World. A lot of humid days ahead, so I should get a lot more listening in.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Lots of reading this afternoon and tomorrow. Staying inside due to heat wave. Just starting Blood World by B V Larsen on audio and reading Six Weeks To Live by Catherine McKenzie.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Well, reached the final quarter of the year. Definitely less reading/listening this year, but hopefully more as I get my craft room reorganized and get to sewing more.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Best wishes for your craft room!! :)

message 26: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Been off for awhile due to both family illness issues and internet problems. Both are somewhat settled now. Also, getting back to my series - back to Undying Mercenaries with the next book - Dark World!

message 27: by Stephanie (last edited Dec 26, 2022 06:15PM) (new)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Currently reading/listening to finish off books I started this year and hadn't finished. Still left is an Anthony Bordain audiobook, two cozies and the rest of a humorous scifi Omnibus. I have one old book that I've struggled to get through (bought for my sister) and will end with that one as I don't think I will finish it by the end of the year even if I worked on it first.

Nyssa | 1569 comments That sounds like a lot of ground to cover in 4 or 5 days! Good Luck, and happy reading!! :)
