Yashika | 65 comments I feel like a lot of the popular book series that I read, turn out to be books I dislike. This is mainly due to bad characters, bad plots, TOO MANY OVERUSED TROPES, annoying FL who is a) a mary sue or b) "not like OTHER GIRLS", or just have bad writing (sometimes it will have all of these in it 🙃)

So just wondering, if this also happens quite often to others, or do I just have bad luck? (also cause I'm wanting to start a war in the comment section, lol)

For example for me:
- Divergent
- Uglies
- The Inheritance Games
- The Mortal Instruments
- Legend
- Kingdom of the Wicked
- Stalking Jack the Ripper
- SHATTER ME
- GALLAGHER GIRLS
- THE PRINCESS DIARIES
- AMERICAN ROYALS
- RED QUEEN
- SHADOW AND BONE
- SIX OF CROWS (I KNOW that a lot of people will be mad cause of this 🙃)
- KING OF SCARS
- TWILIGHT
- THRONE OF GLASS
- ONE OF US IS LYING
- THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE

Before anyone gets mad at me (really sorry, I'm not kidding when I say that I'm picky in books), would like to say that for most of these I have finished the whole series(or close to it) (so no saying, "you have to read the whole series, it gets better", I tried. It didn't for me (Shown by capitalized letters)

Feel free to argue with me, just don't be mean about it. I'm not trying to insult or offend anyone about this, just sharing my personal opinion. I just find it very interesting to see how different people think about the same book.

I LOVED SIX OF CROWS AND ADDIE LARUE
shadow and bone was meh I agree, kinda hated it
throne of glass was okay? I’ve only read the first three books, a solid 3.75 overall
I agree with one of us is lying bc I predicted it😭
and YES SHATTER ME AND TWILIGHT SLANDER
I agree completely
Ik ik, I’ve only read not even the first book in the shatter me series, but omg I can’t stand it lol

other books I hate
- punk 57
- a court of frost and starlight (my least favorite in the series)
- thirteen reasons why
- elanor and park
- den of vipers

YESSSS SOC SUPREMACY

message 4: by Yashika (new)

Yashika | 65 comments I know a lot of people LOVED SOC, and I thought I would too. I trudged through the whole Shadow and Bone series because everyone told me that the Six of Crows was worth it. The plot did seem interesting at first, but felt odd for me.

Here are the MAIN reasons why I didn't enjoy it personally:
a) The characters DID NOT feel like they were there age. (like is this just me???? I think it would be better to be sold as more NA) b) the pacing (sometimes it felt too slow and sometimes too fast) c) a bit boring and hard to understand at times
d) sold as enemies to lovers, but there wasn't too much of that!

I understand where you’re coming from lol
I just feel like I loved it so much bc I really connected with the characters
I loved how character driven it was
and there wasn’t a single crow I didn’t like, I absolutely adore all of them

Yashika | 65 comments Are the movies worth actually watching (even if you really hate the books, like with a passion, and think a certain character is just a tad bit of a creep)?

hmmmm
you're definitely allowed your own opinions on books
i tend to like pretty much everything though :)

also NO omg i do not recommend twilight AT ALL as a movie they somehow made it eve worse than the books

about your list though... that is a lot of popular books! that makes me wonder if people "like" them just because others do

i thought TMI was pretty average, though i love it because it's so nostalgic for me, but i adore cassandra's other books more than TMI, i recommend giving TID a try!

divergent is again just for the nostalgia, actually i love a lot of other books the same way, like uglies, red queen, and one of us is lying
when you look at it they're average but they just hold so many memories

Yashika | 65 comments Actually for me the Percy Jackson book series, were a fantastic read the first time, but rereading it again just felt off. I didn’t enjoy it as much and kinda thought the characters were annoying.

Gamar ❤ (itsmura) | 14 comments I completely agree Yashika . I also think the age I read them at was the perfect time and the older I got the less it was for me . It was great at that time though !

I read twilight when I had just started exploring the romance genre , so I didn’t have standards and liked it . Once I tried re-reading it
….Big NO

Aubrey | 61 comments I have to disagree with the An Ember In The Ashes slander lol, bc it quickly became one of my favourite book series. No hate to anyone who doesn’t like it tho :)
We’re all entitled to our own opinions.

Agreed. I only read (once) the Percy Jackson and Olympians series and then the Kane chronicles. I got bored afterwards.

That’s exactly my case

message 30: by Anugraha (new)

Anugraha | 43 comments I have to admit one thing, I didn’t really enjoy SoC or crooked kingdom at all😬🤭. I loved the characters more than anything but it’s just the fact that I didn’t understand a thing that was going on. And I gave it a good rating because it’s a good book it’s just that I didn’t enjoy it much. Another unpopular opinion I loved Shadow and bone , I understood what was happening , I really liked the characters (not mal) I absolutely adore the world building . And it wasn’t full of super crazy plans so I could understand everything. I repeat I love the characters ,just not the story . I also didn’t like red white and royal blue much . I thought they weren’t given enough time to actually fall in love the author kind of skipped over that .😕

Yashika | 65 comments Okay, so I am planning to basically read ya books than many people think are overhyped. Any suggestions that have NOT been mentioned earlier and are YA appropriate? (Also, I listed in the very beginning comment which ones I already have read so if you could put other titles than them, that would be great. Thanks :)
