Currently, we organize group books and group book chats by global regions, (e.g. Oceania, Scandinavia, South America , etc).

Is there a good argument for creating "sub-regions" as needed?

An example: mysteries with "deep south" settings (USA).

Or, "Southern California style" mysteries. The United States of America lends itself to these two very easy examples, because our nation happens to enjoy several distinct cultural regions.

These 'inland empires' have often --in turn -- inspired various 'flavors' of mystery writing. "Southern California Hard-Boiled" is a well-known strain in the detective genre.

And our 'deep South' of course, makes for the tradition of 'Southern Gothic' mysteries.

Are there other countries where a similar situation is found?

If so, would this then warrant a section for the sub-region you have mind?

Your opinion, please.
