The Baudelaire’s Violet, Klaus, and Sunny have run away from VFD village and come across “The Last Chance General Store”. Klaus warns not to enter in fear of being reported to the police, but they go anyway. Klaus asks the clerk to use their telegram for free because it’s an emergency and send a message to Poe. The store manager recognizes them and attempts to apprehend them, but the siblings escape in a VFD van full of “volunteers fighting disease”. The children think that this is the VFD their parents worked for because Jacques Snicket references to Volunteers. They travel with the volunteers to an unfinished hospital. The kids meet Babs, head of human resources who takes paperwork very seriously. They are taken to the library of records and meet Hal, who teaches how to file paperwork. Count Olaf arrives under the alias “Mattathias” and attempts to steal the snicket file while the Baudelaires have to uncover a mystery about a teapot, a survivor of the house fire, and escape Olaf all in one book.
I will give this book 5/5 stars for plot, characters, originality, and tone. I did enjoy this book maybe because of the mysterious tone the series has.
